hazing

  • Question:-Hazing .......................................................?
Just clean fun or a work of modern art?
    categorize this....
    # Sports > Football (Soccer) > Women's Football (Soccer)
    # Sports > Hockey
    # Politics & Government > Military
    # Sports > Football (Soccer) > General - Football (Soccer)
    # Sports > General - Sports

Answer:-Well what are we talking about, beer and goldfish eating, toilet swishies, or a good snap on the azz with a towel, cuz I know some azzes I'd like to snap.
    I'm going with general sports
  • Question:-How do i remove hazing from newly installed polished granite floor?
I had a polished granite floor installed 3 days ago. They did not do a very good job of removing the hazing after it was grouted. There are even tiles with spots of grout on them. I was told to add baking soda to the cleaner i use to remove it. Is baking soda safe for polished granite? What will remove the haze, but still not ruin the polished finish?

Answer:-hazing is left over residue from grouting the tiles. If you do choose to tackle this yourself, I would get the floor wet by spraying it with a spray bottle and let it sit for an hour. If it is still wet I would then use a clean dry cloth to remove the residue. You could try a small out of the way area first so you will not have any scratches in the middle of your floor. After the water has been removed from the floor, you should use cheese cloth to buff off any remaining hazing. I have used this process in the past with great results. The biggest challenge with your floor is that it is a polished granite and trying to remove the haze incorrectly could dull the polish on the granite. I would not use baking soda.

    cheers
  • Question:-What are some fraternity hazing activities that I can portray in a film?
I am producing an anti-hazing film and I have to come up with several hazing or initiation rituals meant to humiliate the pledge. I guess my question is: what would other guys on this forum find most humiliating?

Answer:-(a) pushing a penny across the floor or sidewalk with one's nose.

    (b) standing (or kneeling) still while having ketchup, mustard, etc. dumped over you. Or being pelted with raw eggs. Or, a single egg under a ball cap that is broken gently, so that the liquid oozes out over time, drips down onto one's face and clothes, and dries.

    (c) Physical exercise (push-ups, bows & toes, etc.)

    (d) have one's hair cut into a non-fashionable style (think 50's flat-top)...especially if you get an entire pledge "class" to do the same

    (e) wearing suit, dress shirt and tie on the top half of your body, and gym shorts and athletic shoes.

    (f) go into a local store and purchase for themselves queen-size panty hose. Wear it under regular clothes the next (several) day(s).

Perhaps many of these you could no longer do on most politically correct campuses, but note that these kinds of things do not carry the risk of physical injury as some of the more "newsworthy" hazings that pop up. Also, perhaps easier to stage and film for a documentary then imposing on a real pledge class these days (except for finding multiple guys who would be willing to cut their hair for you).
  • Question:-How do you clear up the hazing of headlights?
The headlights on a Mazda and Honda are hazing up. Is there any product or remedy to clear this up?

Answer:-yes, you can go to wal mart and look in the auto section, or i am sure places like jiffy lube will have it too, just tell them your problem, and they will get you something for it
  • Question:-How do I get rid of hazing on polycarbonate drinking glasses caused from Goof Off?
I couldn't wash the price tag off of the glasses, so I used Goof Off. Unfortunately, it caused hazing that has disfigured the glasses. I tried washing the hazing off with soapy water, but it didn't work. Any suggestions for getting the hazing off? Or did I ruin my new glasses?

Answer:-Try using toothpaste. Sqeeze some on your finger & rob like crazy.
  • Question:-How common is hazing on men's varsity sports teams and do they really make new players masturbate?
I'm just wondering if all the rumours about hazing on men's varsity sports teams is a myth, or a reality. I'm new to one of these teams, so I really hope they don't make me do something crazy, like masturbate in front of others in the locker room. I heard a rumor that this happens, with all the guys standing in a circle.

Answer:-ya, happens sometimes, sometimes alot worst that just that.
  • Question:-How bad is hazing in college and high school?
I am about to start school again and apparently hazing is super bad. What happens?

Answer:-It is not nearly so much of a problem as it used to be. It is illegal. If you encounter it, report it immediately to the dean or the campus police. Refuse to participate.
  • Question:-What should you do when you witness a serious hazing?
Let's say there's a hazing going on that is seriously injuring people, and you've tried to report it to school faculty but no one does anything. Should you try to break it up yourself?

Answer:-"No." Odds that you are dealing with A GROUP of people, and you'd be making a bad situation worse, by challenging them by yourself.

I would: report it to the Greek Council / Athletic Director; to the Dean; to the group's Academic Advisor .. or the local police.
  • Question:-How bad does rookie hazing get in the NFL?
Is it relatively harmless stuff like shaving cream or gatorade dumped on the rookies, or does it get carried away and dangerous? You'd think with what these players cost the NFL would ban all hazing period. It's only a matter of time until someone seriously injures a rookie and it costs the team big time, either in a lawsuit or losing a position they were counting on.

Answer:-Ben Roethlisberger had a motorcycle collision, Brandon Marshall put his arm in a TV for a bag of McDonalds, and Plaxico Burress shoots himself in the leg. Those are three incidents that happened on their own merrit.

Pro football players hurt within this 4 year time frame? Answer - 0.

Hazing incidents is just overblown by the media. Stupidity causing injury to one's self is worse.

Thumbs up to those who agree.
  • Question:-What is a good attention getter for a speech about hazing?
I have finished my informative speech on hazing, and I just need an interesting and possibly shocking attention getter to get everyone into my speech. I could also use a closer. Any ideas?

Answer:-Hazing is a way for people to fit in, while harrassing and humiliating others who don't fit in. If it isn't stopped, it's just like childhood abuse, it could wind up becoming a neverending circle.
But darn... It was so fun trashing my friends back in high school. Ohhh, good times. Gooood times.

do a barrel roll.

  • Question:-What are some cool tricks like "do a barrel roll"?
Do a barrel roll, for those of you who are unaware, is a trick on google. go to google and simply type in "do a barrel roll" without the quotations.

but are there any cool tricks like this with google or any other website?

    Answer:-
  • Question:-What is the whole thing with typing in "Do a barrel roll" on google?
because I don't notice anything happening about what everyones talking about. im so confused. i know its from starfox

    Answer:-
  • Question:-How is a barrel roll performed?
In terms of using the stick and rudder, how is a barrel roll performed? Any actual pilots out there, that are able to do a barrel roll? Would full left rudder and back on the stick do it?

I've read that roll, pitch, and yaw control movement 'around' the x, y, z axis. But a barrel roll involves movement 'along' the y axis. How does an airplane generate movement along the y axis?

Answer:-what you describe with full rudder and aft stick would result in a snap roll if the entry was correct. A barrel roll is a coordinated maneuver done on a parabola. The aircraft is first placed in a shallow dive to gain airspeed then as the nose is brought up through the horizon left aileron and left rudder are applied smoothly, coordinated back pressure is maintained until inverted then released slightly, as the plane continues to roll and the nose drops through the horizon aileron and rudder are slowly brought back to the neutral position, back pressure is applied slightly to bring the nose back to the horizon. Done correctly the whole maneuver is kept in positive G. The control inputs are constant feed and released smoothly throughout this maneuver performed about a fixed point on the horizon.

To get a visual idea of what the maneuver looks like take a threaded bolt and look at it from the end, consider the center line of the bolt as your point on the horizon now follow the path of the threads as they go around the bolt. This is the same flight path taken in a barrel roll you enter and exit slightly of course in relationship to the center line of the maneuver.

    Watch and learn here.

  • Question:-How do you do a barrel roll in volleyball?
I actually have two questions about volleyball. One inquiring about the "barrel roll" used for digging. Can someone with experience and mastery describe each step and what you have to do to do a barrel roll. I was also wondering how you know if you have shin splints because I have pain in the side of my leg near my shin that hasn't gone away for about a week and a half now but I don't want to go to the doctor if it's just common pain/slight injury to the muscle. Thank you =)
That is good advice Jordan, but I already read that online on one of the how to sites. I wanted to see if someone had anything different but thanks. Do you happen to live in Florida?
Haha, it is pretty hard to explain, just seeing if someone says something that will click. Thanks for trying, everyone! =)

Answer:-I saw a video on this, a month ago, actually. What you do is get into the position you would to receive a ball. Assuming that you have to hit the floor, make sure your arm never scrapes the floor. Once you hit the ball, you should land in a position where your (for example) right arm is extended with your right knee as close to you chest as possible, and your left leg straight out. Proceed to "flip over" with your right knee still bent and place your right foot on the floor with your hands on the floor. Push yourself up and you've done it! If you want, I could VISUALLY show you how with pics. ;-)

  • Question:-Is there a way to train a dog to make a barrel roll?
I'm trying to teach my dog to do a barrel roll... any help?

Answer:-Set the barrel in rolling position then put a treat in the crease between the ground and the barrel. When they sniff it, they'll want to eat. The dog will stick its nose in the crease causing it to roll. Congratulate your dog and say what you want the command to be. Keep trying again and again. till she understands she has to roll the barrel. After a while, you can stop putting the treat under the crease. She'll think that there is a treat under there again and push it. When she pushes it, encourage her and give her a treat saying good girl.

  • Question:-What is the yoga asana that looks like crow but with legs folded in lotus?
And a link to a how-to video would help also.
Yep, Urdhva Kukkutasana looks like it.
(altho I thought kakasana is crow, with legs across the triceps, and bakasana is crane with knees in the armpits)

Answer:-The "Baka" in Bakasana translates to crane (the bird, not construction device), but many do call it crow pose.

I'm guessing you likely are referring to Urdhva Kukkutasana.
    Urdhva = Upward
    Kukkuta = cock/rooster

    An instruction article:

If you search on youtube by "Urdhva Kukkutasana", there are several 'demo' videos, but there didn't appear to be any actual instructional videos.

When the head is back and the belly is up, it looks a little like a dead fish floating on top of the water. Is that intentional? It doesn't really seem like a healthy pose....seems a little morbid to me!
And I already practice yoga, so no concern about that!

Answer:-You could try here for more help with that.

  • Question:-Is the Triangle Pose, a yoga asana or posture, easy to do? How do you do it?

    Answer:-Trikonasana - the Triangle

Stretches the spine, opens the torso, improves balance and concentration.

Start with your spread 3-4 feet apart, feet parallel. Turn your left foot 90 degrees to the left and your right foot about 45 degrees inward. Inhale and raise both arms so they're parallel with the floor. Exhale, turn your head to the left and look down your left arm toward your outstretched fingers. Check that your left knee is aligned with your left ankle. Take a deep breath and stretch outward to the left, tilting the left hip down and the right hip up. When you've stretched as far as you can, pivot your arms, letting your left hand reach down and come to rest against the inside of your calf, while your right arms points straight up. Turn and look up at your right hand. Breathe deeply for several breaths. Inhale, and straighten up. Exhale, lower your arms. Put your hands on your hips and pivot on your heels, bringing your feet to face front. Repeat the posture on the other side.
  • Question:-In yoga health, how would you perform a Bhujanga Asana? What are its benefits? How often to practice?

Answer:-The benefits of Bhujanga Asana are numerous. It activates the whole abdominal area. The pancreas, liver and other organs of the digestive system are strengthened and normalized if there are some minor problems. It is regarded as one of the best asanas to cure constipation, indigestion, wind troubles, stomach ache and other disorders in the abdomen. It also makes the spine flexible, thus correcting backache. Menstrual problems are also corrected.

    How to perform:
1.Lie on the stomach. Breathe normally.
2.Straighten the head and tilt it slightly backward.
3.Inhaling slowly, raise the head and chest upwards that you’re the navel is on the floor. In this position, both legs should be fully stretched and kept tightly together.
4.Then look up and hold your breath for six to eight seconds.
5.After the 6 or 8 seconds, start exhaling and lowering the head towards the floor and let the head rest on any cheek.
6.Now let the body relax and rest for 6 seconds.
    7.After rest, repeat the process.
Daily Practice: Repeat it only four times a day.
  • Question:-What are the physical benefits of doing the yoga posture hal asana?

Also known as the Plow Pose

Answer:-According to Iyengar, halasana will help to relieve tightness in the shoulders and elbows. It also sends extra blood into the spine to help relieve back aches. It is cleansing for the abdominal organs and helps with gas pain. He also reccomends it for those who suffer from high blood pressure.

The Yoga Journal website says halasana is good for stimulating the abdominal organs and thyroid, for relieving symptoms of menopause, and for stretching the shoulders and spine. They also say it calms the brain and relieves stress and fatigue as well as being therapeutic for backache, headache, infertility, insomnia, and sinusitis.

This is definitely a pose best practiced under the guidance of a teacher the first couple of times you do it-- so you can be sure you're practicing it properly and avoid injury.

    Namaste!
  • Question:-Please explain briefly how to perform a pawanmukta asana? What are its benefits if you practice it?

Answer:-These are the steps in doing a pawanmukta asana:

1.Stand up on the floor. Keep both hands hanging down and look straight.
2.Lift one knee up toward the chest.
3.Put the same side hand on the ankle and the other hand on the knee.
4.Pull the knee towards the chess without any pull on the ankle.
5.Stand firmly on the other leg, keeping quite straight.
6.Stay in that position for six to eight seconds, then release the knee and put the foot on the floor.
7.Rest for six seconds and repeat the process with the other leg.
    8.Do it 6 to 8 times daily.

Those who feel unable to perform it standing up, you may do it lying on the back. The method of practice is the same. There is much flexibility in doing this asana while lying down.

This asana activates the pancreas and other organs of the abdomen and is best to correct wind trouble and acidity and gas formation and loosens the hip-joints. It also cures constipation.

nest

  • Question:-How do I stop birds from building a nest on our front porch?
Last year birds built a next on the arch on our front porch. It was fun to watch the baby birds hatch, but the bird droppings all over our entry way porch was a constant mess. We took the nest down after the birds flew out of the nest. Now they have returned a year later and are starting to build a nest in the same place. I have a green rubber snake and a plastic bobblehead owl on right under where the nest is being built. The birds are totally ignoring it. I've even moved them around daily. Any suggestions?

Answer:-Dilligence is the key to success. Constantly removing the nest before it is complete will work. Also if you give them a good scare everytime they come back they will learn it's not safe there. You can blast them with the hose o a water gun too.
  • Question:-What do I do about a year old wasp nest in a bird house wrens are trying to nest in?
The roof doesn't come off this birdhouse, the opening is about 3 inches by 2 inches. The wasp nest is about the size of a baseball. And a half built wren nest all crammed in there. What kind of tools will I need to safely remove the wasp nest? I don't believe the wasps are currently occupying the nest and I am not sure I want to find that out the hard way. Will the presence of the wrens keep the wasps from coming back?

Answer:-wasps don`t come back to old nests, they are a one time thing.
If the birds don`t like it they will get rid of it themselves.
i would leave it alone as not to spook the birds.
  • Question:-What size does a nest box for pigeons need to be?
I am going to be keeping pigeons soon for the purpose of dog training. I have already built the hutch, but now need to construct nest boxes for extra shelter and protection (and for use after mating). What are sufficient dimensions for one nest box, and does it matter if the next box is secured above the floor of the hutch or on the floor? Any advice will help. Thanks for your time.

Answer:-My uncle keeps pigeons and his nest boxes are a little not much smaller than these http://www.bartcaldenteytur.com/palomar4.jpg

remember to put the wooden block in for the birds to stand on, not sure about the nests on the floor bit!

and try to use wood for the cage doors instead of metal or mesh i saves injury!
  • Question:-How can I remove a large wasp nest from a window while preserving the nest?
I have a gigantic wasp nest on one of my windows that I'd like to take down and show to some of my science teachers. I was going to wait until winter, when the wasps are gone, but I have no idea how to safely remove the nest from the window without hurting either of them. How would I go about doing this?

Answer:-The best thing to do is to consult a professional on the phone...
Call a pest contol business and ask your questions over the phone, not yahoo answers.....

We recently had a nest removed from a gap in one of our walls. Generally the idea is to break up the nest so the wasps disperse.. however clearly your intentions differ from the manual....

Call a proffesional, or better yet,,, employ one...

    Good look
  • Question:-What happens to baby robins when they leave the nest?
Do they return to the nest? Do they stick close by to stay near their parents? Or do they go off on their own once they leave the nest for the first time. I am asking because I have a nest with 3 baby robins outside my home and I enjoy watching them. Today two of the three babies left the nest and I am wondering if I can expect to see them around again.

Answer:-I don't know but I think it is wonderful that somebody on this site has an interest in nature. I was just telling a friend today that the birds are really singing this Spring. When I have been under great stress, I often take " mini vacations." I sit on my front porch and listen to the birds. It settles my nerves and gets me to a calmer place in my mind and heart. Nature is unlike the day to day life of humans. Animals are so much more civilized than most people. Keep on watching and listening to your birds. I hope you never lose your curiousity.
  • Question:-How big does the bubble nest of the male betta need to be in order to release the female?

  • Question:-How can I attract birds to nest in my garden?
I have had nest boxes used in the past but since I installed a bird feeder I've had birds feeding but not nesting. How can I have both?

Answer:-I have always had birds feeding but no nest too! Well last year we left a pile of brush in the garden and have had a banner year of nests! Even a nest in a tomato plant. Bluebirds had 2 hatchings in a gourd birdhouse! All winter we watched the birds at the brush pile and in the spring it was a baby bird paradise.
  • Question:-How long do baby barn swallows use the nest once they learn to fly?
Right now they are at about 14 days old, they look like they are about to start flying any day. I want to make sure I get rid of the nest before they lay another clutch. Once the baby birds get out of the nest and are flying, when can I knock the nest down?

Answer:-give it a couple of days after they leave... from what I have seen they may vacate the nest during the day but be back at night to roost.... if the old lady likes your place she'd will just build another nest if you knock it down, that's if she has any intention of a second brood----getting a bit late for that, but you never know.
  • Question:-How do I get a wasp nest out of a closed flowerbox?
I have a flowerbox outside of my first floor window. It has been nailed closed since we moved in. It must have a HUGE wasp nest inside as they go in and out of it like crazy. How do I safely kill the wasps, open the flower box and get rid of the nest?? Thanks!

Answer:-Put Wasp Spray on the outside around the whole flower box, because most brands kill even later when the wasps come in contact with it. You can spray them from far away with most brands also so you don't have to be worried about getting stung. After you notice that they have died you can remove the nest, if they don't die then you'll have to spray it one more time. This is the only way i know how without calling an exterminator.
  • Question:-How do we get birds to build their nest somewhere else?
We have a window arch over our front door. Two birds are building a nest in the window arch. There are no eggs so far- just twigs, grass, & moss. My husband is afraid the nest will fall on our heads as we go out the door. He has knocked it down twice and put a fake rubber snake up there. The birds keep coming back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the birds to build their nest somewhere else? We don't want to hurt them. We just want them to build somewhere else.

Answer:-We have had this problem before. Tearing it down time and again does not seem to help. If there is a way you can attach a temporary screen up that will deter them and they will have to build somewhere else.
