osteopathy

  • Question:-osteopathy?
Well right now (15-sophmore year) I'm wondering what I want to be and I had my eyes on being a Chiropracter. Then I saw something called osteopathy and reasearched into that.

I realize that they are really similar to Chiropractics and basically they just work on more body parts....

My question is what exactly is the difference...like what do they do that chiropractics don't.

P.S. Like I did some research and I know some of the basic differences (not too much in debt though...) so I want to know more information on it.

    Thank you!

Answer:-Osteopathy...was originally a drug free way to heal...Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy..several years ago the US Osteopathic community became almost absorbed into medicine. Now few DOs in the US use OMT. The profession has the same specialties as MDs....surgeon, family practice, etc. DOs write prescriptions, do surgery. etc., same as MD.

Chiropractors do not write prescriptions. In some states do only minor in office surgery (skin lesions). They treat the neuromusculoskeletal system with Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment....primarily the spine...but can work well with any joint. Some use physical therapy modalities in addition to the manipulation. Most have relationship with MD/DO community and refer to appropriate speciality when needed.

    Training time about the same.
DOs are "mainstreamed" as a part of medicine
DCs are not because they do not prescribe drugs. The ones I know do not want to Rx medications. That is why they chose to be DC.
  • Question:-Can a doctor of osteopathy specialize, such as psychiatry? Also do DO schools require MCAT scores?
Can a doctor of osteopathy specialize, I am planning on becoming a psychiatrist, but I have been looking into DO schools as well. Also do DO schools require MCAT scores?

Answer:-Yes, DO's specialize and Yes, they ask for MCAT's
  • Question:-What university offers equine osteopathy courses in the US?
I am looking to complete an equine osteopathy course and would like all the info i can get

    Answer:-http://www.thewholehorse.com/osteopathy.html
  • Question:-What college or university can i get a doctor of medicine or osteopathy?
What college or university can i get a doctor of medicine or osteopathy?
plz help idk what ones i should apply to i want to know all my choices

Answer:-You need to earn a bachelor's degree before you can enroll at a medical or osteopathic school. Be sure to take the pre-med classes which are listed on medical school websites. These classes are offered at virtually every general four-year college and university in the USA (not art schools, for example).
  • Question:-Failing a class and becoming a doctor of osteopathy, is it possible?
So I'm so confused. I want to become a Doctor of Osteopathy and specialize in pediatric oncology. From what I've heard when you go for your DO they accept a retake grade and that replaces the bad grade you recieved for that class (whereas if you go for your MD they average the two grades together, A + F = C). Is this true, or am I just hearing rumors?

Answer:-Find out the school's actual policy on retakes, don't rely on hearsay.
  • Question:-Do Doctors of Osteopathy need a licensure and/or certification?
In my health class we are doing a project on certain careers. One question is if Doctors of Osteopathy need a licensure and/or a certification. Do they?? Please help! I can't find half the answers to these questions!

Answer:-1] Doctors of Osteopathy AND Docotors of medicine need:
    4 year bachelor's degree, and
4 years of med school, and
3 or more years of residency
2] Doctors of Osteopathy need a license to practice, just like Doctors of Medicine.
  • Question:-What should I expect from an Dr. of Osteopathy?
I called a new rheumatology practice for an appointment, and the doctor they assigned me to is a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy). What should I expect?

Answer:-You need to realize that when asking this question on an "alternative medicine" board, you will get very biased responses. In truth, you probably won't notice the difference between a DO and an MD. A DO is still able to prescribe medicine and most of them use conventional medicine in 90% of their practice. And the person who claimed that DO's don't "throw pills at patients" like MD's do, is just plain ignorant on many levels. Some DO's prescribe drugs like its going out of style, and most MD's and DO's are actually very similar in their prescribing habits. DO's are more likely to occasionally include things like spinal manipulation (aka, chiropractic), but they don't believe that it will cure the disease by itself. They do it to complement the primary treatment. And yes, DO's often take the exact same classes as MD's, but there are some differences in their training and coursework. DO programs are not as competitive to get in as MD programs, so that might play a slight role on the intelligence of the overall population of DO's versus MD's, but I wouldn't extrapolate that down to make an individual judgement of your practitioner. There is a wider range in the quality of care with DO's than MD's, but some DO's are truly fantastic and some DO's are pretty poor. If you are really worried about it, just ask the DO what he specifically might do differently than an MD. Most likely, your treatment will be the same.
  • Question:-What is the difference between chiropractic and osteopathy?
Which is better to see; a chiropractor or an osteopath? I am having problems with either my muscles or my nerves in my back (not sure, different doctors have said different things.) and I am getting a lot of sharp pains to my neck and a lot of head aches under pressure and stress. I was on bed rest for 3 days as I couldn't lift my head or turn my neck.

Answer:-It really depends on your goals and philosophy of health. Chiropractors believe the power that created the body, heals the body. They view your body as a whole, and think of you as a self healing organism. They adjust the spine to free up the nervous systems of subluxations (fixation in your spine that may or may not be causing you the pains, but when present they interfere with your nervous system making you less healthy). With a freely moving spine, your nervous system will function optimally and heal itself. Neck pain, head aches, and pain are just symptoms, chiropractors treat the cause which is subluxation derived from fixations in the spine from trauma, stress, poor posture, and exposure to toxins.

To clear up the misconception of education, Chiropractors spend 3-4 years in Chiropractic college, and have a very similar curriculum as Medical Doctors. Just replace the surgery and pharmaceutical classes with adjusting technique and nutrition classes. In British Medical Journal May 2003, "Who pays for the pizza?", it is said that 60% of the medical research and 2/3rds of the medical institutions have economic ties to the pharmaceutical companies" So although it may be longer, future doctors are being taught what Big Pharma wants, not what is always best for you.

Only 10-15 % of osteopaths practice manipulations, which means close to 80% will just write you a prescription for pain meds. If you want to treat the symptoms and do not care about correcting the cause of your pain, then this may be a good solution for you.

We are not genetically programmed to be sick, we are built to be well and thrive. There are no drugs that will make you healthier. Chiropractors study wellness, MD's and DO's study pathologies. If you wanted to get rich, would you study a rich person or a poor person? If you wanted to be happy, would you study a depressed person or a motivated upbeat person?

I hope this answers your questions and raises a few more for you to consider, feel free to e-mail with any others
  • Question:-What is the difference between a Medical Doctor and Doctor of Osteopathy?
I am looking for a family doctor right now, and would like to know the difference between the two. What is the best of the two?

Answer:-Opinions will differ, but, an osteopath is actually MORE trained than an M.D. Osteo does mean bone, but, an osteopath can do manipulations like a chiropractor and operate, and they take the whole person into consideration. If you go there for a cold, they will take the rest of your life into consideration before treating, and they care about ALL of you, whereas an M.D. will just take care of your "specific" complaint at the moment. Both are VERY good, but in my opinion an osteopath is better. I see one. Can you tell?
  • Question:-What is a doctor of osteopathy?
I just started using a doctor of osteopathy. How are they different from a regular MD? Are they more knowledgable than regular MD's?

Answer:-Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or D.O.s, apply the philosophy of treating the whole person (holistic approach) to the prevention (medical), diagnosis and treatment of illness, disease and injury using conventional medical practice such as drugs and surgery, along with manual therapy (OMM).

Thus, like Doctors of Medicine (M.D.s), Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.s) educated in the United States are fully licensed physicians and surgeons who practice the full scope of medicine. In most other parts of the world, D.O.s are not medically trained practitioners.

apostasy

  • Question:-What is the penalty for apostasy in the major divisions of the Abrahamic religions?
What is the penalty for apostasy in the major divisions of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam)? Also if you can, can you please tell me why X is so? Thanks

Answer:-Islam is not an Abrahamic religion and secondly the punishment for apostasy in Islam is DEATH. Muslims force kaffirs to become Muslims with coercion so how much more will they do if a person leaves islam...?

  • Question:-When you break down the word apostasy and apostle, what do the words actually mean?
I love learning new words. The other day I found out what apostasy means and was very excited when I learned this because it so resolutely defines my religious views in the past four years. But I was wondering, what do these close-sounding words mean? For instance how is apostle, apocalypse, apostasy mean when you break them down? All of them start with "apo". What does this mean in its original (latin or greek or whatever)? Thanks!

Answer:-Apo (Alpha, pi, omicron) means from. In Greek, what we translate as Apocalypse means to reveal or uncover, what we translate apostasy means defection (read: heresy), and the word we translate Apostle also means messenger. I have yet to take a Greek class, so I don't know the significance of the word 'Apo' at the beginning, but in all of them it is hyphened off. I don't think that they are as connected as you think they are; there are lots of Greek words in the New Testament with this three letter prefix.
  • Question:-What is the penalty for apostasy in Islam?
I'm looking for information about the penalty for apostasy in Islam. Please cite reference from the Qur'an and Hadiths to support your idea. Thanks.

Answer:-The penalty for apostasy in Islam is death.

Qur'an (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them"

Qur'an (9:11-12) - "But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion. We detail Our revelations for a people who have knowledge. And if they break their pledges after their treaty (hath been made with you) and assail your religion, then fight the heads of disbelief - Lo! they have no binding oaths - in order that they may desist." This verse is speaking of infidels (ie. "slay the infidels wherever you find them" 9:5) who obviously became Muslim to escape the sword, but the Hadith make no distinction of how a Muslim came to be a Muslim. Apostasy is always punished by death.

Bukhari (52:260) - "...The Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' "

Bukhari (83:37) - "Allah's Apostle never killed anyone except in one of the following three situations: (1) A person who killed somebody unjustly, was killed (in Qisas,) (2) a married person who committed illegal sexual intercourse and (3) a man who fought against Allah and His Apostle and deserted Islam and became an apostate."

Bukhari (84:57) - "[In the words of] Allah's Apostle, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'"

Bukhari (89:271) - A man who embraces Islam, then reverts to Judaism is to be killed according to "the verdict of Allah and his apostle."

Bukhari (84:58) - "There was a fettered man beside Abu Muisa. Mu'adh asked, 'Who is this (man)?' Abu Muisa said, 'He was a Jew and became a Muslim and then reverted back to Judaism.' Then Abu Muisa requested Mu'adh to sit down but Mu'adh said, 'I will not sit down till he has been killed. This is the judgment of Allah and His Apostle (for such cases) and repeated it thrice.' Then Abu Musa ordered that the man be killed, and he was killed. Abu Musa added, 'Then we discussed the night prayers'"

Bukhari (84:64-65) - "Allah's Apostle: 'During the last days there will appear some young foolish people who will say the best words but their faith will not go beyond their throats (i.e. they will have no faith) and will go out from (leave) their religion as an arrow goes out of the game. So, wherever you find them, kill them, for whoever kills them shall have reward on the Day of Resurrection.'"

Abu Dawud (4346) - "Was not there a wise man among you who would stand up to him when he saw that I had withheld my hand from accepting his allegiance, and kill him?" Muhammad is chastising his companions for allowing an apostate to "repent" under duress. (The person in question was Muhammad's former scribe who left him after doubting the authenticity of divine "revelations" upon finding out that he could suggest grammatical changes. He was brought back to Muhammad after having been captured in Medina).

Reliance of the Traveller (Islamic Law) o8.1 - "When a person who has reached puberty and is sane voluntarily apostatizes from Islam, he deserves to be killed." (o8.4 affirms that there is no penalty for killing an apostate).
  • Question:-What is the definition of blasphemy in Islam? What is the definition of apostasy?
Both are things that will get a person killed in Muslim countries. My impression from what I have heard is that blasphemy is saying anything negative about Islam, and apostasy is choosing to have different religious beliefs from what your parents taught you.

Answer:-Blasphemy: saying anything negative about islam or Muhammed.

Apostasy: deciding to leave islam for another religion or no religion.

Both these things are offenses that will get a person executed in those muslim countries that have Sharia (religious law).
  • Question:-A question regarding Baptism which is followed by temporary apostasy?
If someone is baptized by water, then fire (Holy Spirit) and then after a while of temporary apostasy returns to our Lord.
Should they be required to be baptized again? If yes, should it be by the Holy Spirit alone, Water alone, or both?

Answer:-here is Gods Word about the Backslider ..... Hebrews 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

  • Question:-What is the punishment for apostasy in Christianity?
I know that in Sharia Law, apostasy is punished by means of execution. However, I'm not sure what the punishment is given to Christians leaving their faith?

Answer:-During the Inquisition it was also death.

That was about 400 years ago approx. Islam approx 1400 years old, Christianity 2,000 years old.

    Says it all really.
  • Question:-Muslims, what is the penalty for apostasy in your faith?
Imagine your mother of father commits this great crime of apostasy. Would you be willing to carry out the punishment mandated by the Holy Koran?
..... : Are you sure the Koran doesn't speak of what the faithful should do to apostates?

Answer:-Why does it matter what my relationship is to the person? Even in a book of Socrates, the person he was talking to said what does it matter if the person I am bringing to court is my own father. Islam tells us even if my own mother murdered someone and someone else was going to die for her deed, I should (and I completely agree) that I should say no it is my mother that did it.

I am sorry that Islam stresses justice
  • Question:-If apostasy from Christianity is unforgivable, then why do people try to proselytize to apostates?
For example, I am an atheist who used to be a Christian. Leaving Christianity is blasphemy against the holy spirit, so why do people try to win people like me "back into to the fold". The parable of the lost sheep is also moot since the lost sheep did the unforgivable sin and left Jesus, too.

Answer:-While we are still alive, any sins that we have committed can be forgiven. The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the sin of Final Impenitence--to die in God's disfavor. One can do what is necessary to receive God's mercy by praying the rosary daily. See the following promises.

    The rosary is explained here:
    http://www.medjugorje.org/rosary.htm

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.
    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.
    9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
    12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
    15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

    God bless!
    Dave
  • Question:-What is the difference between the sin of apostasy and the sin of heresy?
I guess I am guilty of one or both of them, since I converted to Buddhism some years ago. But I have heard these words used interchangeably. I am not bashing Christianity, and please limit the atheist hate speech (going either way). Just wondering.

Answer:-An apostate is one who, after once professing a religion, later renounces it. A heretic is one who holds non-orthodox beliefs.
  • Question:-What is the definition of apostasy and how serious is apostasy?
Can apostates be within the Christian Congregation?

Answer:-Apostates know the truth but not only turn their back on the good news but are commited to keeping others away from the true knowledge of God and the Christ. Often using false stories against the followers of truth, persecution, intimidation and ridicule.

You will notice apostates have a common theme to tear down when taking their opposition against true Christians and teachings. True Christians build up yet and teach hope and love. Apostates offer no hope only condemnation and are harsh people.

mirror mirror

  • Question:-mirror mirror?
There are 3 people standing in front of a magic mirror. The mirror gives you anything you desire if you tell it the truth, but you disappear if you lie. The first person to talk to the mirror was a very fat brunette. She walked up to the mirror and said "I think I am the thinnest person in the world." and poof, the mirror gobbled her up. The next person to come up to the mirror was a very ugly red head. She told the mirror "I think I am the prettiest person in the world" and poof, the mirror gobbled her up. Lastly came the blonde. She walked up to the mirror and said "I think..." and poof, the mirror gobbled her up.

  • Question:-Are there such things as good mirror and bad mirror?
I mean scientifically, is it possible to be a better mirror?

Mirrors have different prices. What's the difference between cheap and expensive mirrors?

Answer:-Yes, there are different classes of mirrors, depending on whether they are 'first' surface or 'second' surface; how reflective the mirror coating is, and (if it's a mirror like a telescope mirror) how accurate the curvature of the surface is.
A 'second' surface mirror is like the one in your bathroom, where the mirror coating is on the back side (or second surface). A first surface mirror (like a telescope mirror) has the reflective coating on the first surface.
Some mirrors use aluminum as the reflective coating. If not protected the aluminum will tarnish, so a more expensive coating uses 'protected' aluminum. Aluminum reflects about 90% of the light. A very expensive mirror might use exotic materials to boost the reflectivity to 98% or higher.
For a telescope mirror the accuracy of the curved surface is measured in fractions of a wavelength. A 'one-quarter wave' mirror is the least expensive type. A 'one-tenth wave' mirror is more expensive, since it's accuracy is much greater.

  • Question:-How to get through a house of mirrors/mirror maze?
So I'm on vacation and there is a mirror maze. I went through it once and it was a lot harder than expected! Do you know of any techniques I can use to get through it really fast? I already tried only looking at the floor but it didn't help :/ Thank you!!

Answer:-Right hand rule, keep your right hand in contact with the wall and always turn right. Supposed to work.

    Reference has lots of info.
The wall follower, the best-known rule for traversing mazes, is also known as either the left-hand rule or the right-hand rule. If the maze is simply connected, that is, all its walls are connected together or to the maze's outer boundary, then by keeping one hand in contact with one wall of the maze the player is guaranteed not to get lost and will reach a different exit if there is one; otherwise, he or she will return to the entrance. This strategy works best when implemented immediately upon entering the maze.

Another perspective into why wall following works is topological. If the walls are connected, then they may be deformed into a loop or circle. Then wall following reduces to walking around a circle from start to finish.

If the maze is not simply connected (i.e. if the start or endpoints are in the center of the structure or the pathways cross over and under each other), this method will not be guaranteed to help the goal to be reached.

  • Question:-What is the antonym for the word curmudgeon?

Answer:-complimenter, philanthropist, optimist, breath of fresh air
  • Question:-Would it be accurate to describe Robert Novak as a curmudgeon?
Or simply a hard working, thought provoking, masterful journalist ??? RIP Prince of Darkness !!!

Answer:-last of the shoe leather journalists
  • Question:-How to cure a curmudgeon?

Answer:-I would think it would depend on the curmudgeon. You can't change or cure a person of it if they truly like being miserable and miserable to others. I believe they have to want to make that change. Some are just miserable b/c of reasons to which we are not privy. It could be lonliness, past experience, etc. And I'm not saying not to try and break whatever cycle or thinking that has this person so grumpy. But if they enjoy being that way, all the muffins and the smiles in the world are not going to change that person deep down, unless they are looking to do so.

cerebral palsy

  • Question:-Cerebral palsy?
I recently started working as a nanny. The family I work for has a 3 year old son with cerebral palsy and is blind. My question is what kind of activities can I do with him? Also does anyone know anything about this condition? I am a little educated with it but not as well as I would like to be.

Answer:-My 2 year old son has cerebral palsy. He is not blind, but does have vision issues, and he also has some degree of mental retardation. Some kids with cp have mental retardation, and some kids don't.

CP is a neurological disorder. The child's brain has either been injured (perhaps during birth, or oxygen deprivation at some point) or wasn't formed correctly during early pregnancy. The brain can't communicate with the muscles properly, and therefore the child can't control his body the way we do.

My son loves to be held, loves music and when I sing to him, he loves the water (of course you must be very careful and never take you eyes off of him not even for a second - if the phone rings, ignore it; same with the doorbell, don't run and get a towel, nothing - you must keep your hands on him at all times!) I bet this kid you are nannying would love the pool (you'd have to go in with him and hold him) My son really loves movement, like swinging and when I toss him gently on the bed over and over. He loves it when I talk to him - at first it didn't seem to make a difference, but slowly he has realized that he can interact with me.

Also, stretching his muscles several times a day is very important. Stretch out his hamstrings (back of his thigh) and his calves. Give him lots of time on his tummy so he can develop his arm and back muscles - very important.

Just give him lots and lots of love and attention! What a difference you can make in this boy's life!

Sorry for the book - I wish that I had someone I trusted to watch my son. Oh yeah, and what frogenstein said is true - he probably qualifies for Early Intervention services, where he can go and get all sorts of therapies and interact with other kids like him. This is really beneficial.

  • Question:-cerebral palsy?
I have a few question about cerebral palsy.

What causes cerebral palsy and what are the symptoms

What treatments can you go through to treat cerebal palsy

Answer:-Cerebral Palsy is caused by a lack of oxygen at birth. Something basically went wrong and the baby did not receive all the oxygen it needed and a part of the brain became damaged.

Symptoms include difficulty with limb control, speech control and muscular control. Leading to problems walking, talking etc.

Treatment is really only to alleviate the symptoms as an area of the brain once damaged can only repair itself within limits. So really it is physiotherapy and leg, arm braces etc. Speech therapy and cognitive therapy. Medication can help if seizures are a problem.

    go take a look at:

  • Question:-Cerebral Palsy.....?
Has anyone heard that Cerebral Palsy is caused by a doctors malpractice? What do you think it is that causes this?

Answer:-CP has many different causes, and sometimes the exact cause is never known. In my son's case it was caused by the doctors.

He was face up while I pushed for 3 hours. The doctor NEVER showed up. He was deprived of oxygen, and as a result had seizures shortly after birth. My son's CP is a direct result of the doctor's negligence, I have the MRI to prove it. We are in the middle of a long, drawn-out lawsuit against the doctor, hospital, nurses and midwife that caused this lifelong struggle for my son.

  • Question:-Can a person with cerebral palsy start to walk on their own if they pratice alot?
i have cerebral palsy. i think that i can walk if i pratice alot. the other day i went to store and walk with my walker. now my legs are score and i cant pratice now. how can i make my legs less sore?

Answer:-In my experience, the only way a person with CP will learn to walk is to learn how to do it with minimal effort. When you use the right muscles, walking should be almost effortless.

Think about it...babies experiment by using different muscles and bending their bodies in different positions until they find the simplest way. We don't consciously think about breathing, we just do it. Walking should be easy, too.

PT is the best way for a person with CP to learn how to do these effortless movements. My son couldn't sit up, crawl, or walk for a long time; much longer than the average child. After 3 years of PT, (age 3 1/2) he took his first steps. Now he's 5 1/2 and walking, running, jumping, climbing etc. We continue PT visits once weekly and he also practices at home.

If you force walking before your body and brain learn the correct "tools" to master the movements correctly, I think you will be putting unecessary strain on your muscles and cause more pain for yourself.

Make an appt. with a good PT that specializes in people with CP. They are out there, and they are VERY good at what they do. Good luck!
  • Question:-What are the challenges of cerebral palsy?
I am waiting to be a "Big Sister" in Big brothers, big sisters, and they have a possible match for me. She is a girl with cerebral palsy, and I don't know much about it. I have found info online, but it's very clinical and I just wanted some insight on the condition from real people.

Any thoughts? Anything I should know about?

Answer:-Basically it is caused by damage to the part of the brain that handles your motor skills and muscle control. It really varies from person to person so its hard to say exactly what challenges someone would have though.

If her CP is more severe she might use a wheelchair or walker, and also it might be a little hard to understand her because the CP effects muscle control for talking too? Also a lot of people with cerebral palsy have this thing that makes their muscles really tense and they move involuntarily. I think thats what the other answer is talking about when she says her friend shakes. People will do stuff like shake or kick/move their arms or legs without trying, its just like signals from the brain so they can't control it?

My sister has pretty severe CP and her legs just kick a little bit back and forth constantly like 24 hrs a day. She uses a wheelchair only to get around (noo walking) and I think people who don't know her usually have a really hard time understanding her unless she talks really slow. She can't write or do much with her hands but she can drive her wheelchair and eat by herself. But also I have a friend with really mild CP and he just walks with sort of a stiff limp and has bad handwriting/fine motor skills, basically he's just a little bit klutzy/awkward when he moves. Like I said, it varies a lot? Maybe someone at Big Brothers Big Sisters could tell you a little more about her before you meet her?

Oh, also it is caused by brain damage but that doesn't always mean the person will have a mental disability too. Some people with CP will be mentally challenged and some will be average and some total geniuses.
  • Question:-What are the chances of my child having cerebral palsy?
My fiancee has cerebral palsy and we want to have a baby but wanted to know what are the chances that our baby would have it. Cerebral palsy runs on his side of the family but not mine. His grandad and a few of his uncles have it but what are the chances that our child would have it? It seems as if the ppl on his side of the family that have it are male so is it more likely that if we have a boy would he have it. Please help! Please no smart remarks...thank you in advance!

Answer:-I have Cerebral Palsy and it is not a disorder that runs in families. Your fiancee's family might just have it just because. It is simply a lack of oxygen that causes brain damage in the areas of the brain that control balance and fine and gross motor.
  • Question:-What do I do for someone who has cerebral palsy and is suffering from swollen feet?
I know someone who has cerebral palsy and lately has been suffering with swollen feet and ankles. It looks like the swelling is moving upwards. He's been taken to the doctor numerous times, they just throw their cold lingo at you and move on. One said poor circulation but didn't give any information on how to solve the matter. He is in a lot of pain =/ any suggestions would help

Answer:-The exact cause of the swelling needs to be identified to know the full range of treatment options. "Poor circulation" is too vague to know what is wrong. Maybe he could call the docs office to get a more complete explanation of the situation. Without knowing the exact cause, treatment options are limited to elevating the feet, getting some type of leg exercises if possible, and wearing pressure stockings that help clear fluids out of the legs.
  • Question:-How can I help kids with cerebral palsy for a career?
I have a mild case of cerebral palsy and my left hand and leg are a little weak. I'm a junior in high school and I contemplated on being a pediatric neurologist, but I heard being a physician is really stressful. I would like to have family time and normal work hours. I thought about having another profession, but I feel like I have cerebral palsy for a reason. Thank you in advance.

    Answer:-
  • Question:-I have a mild case of cerebral palsy and need help with driving. What tools are out there to help me?
It's a mild case of cerebral palsy. Only thing the matter is that my right hand is limp, i cant grab anything with it. Hence I need to grab a steering wheel when i drive. I have heard about steering control knobs or balls. What else is out there that could help me? I suppose this would make me be able to get a handicap sticker on my license plate too.

Answer:-Car manufacturers are one of the most enthusiastic industries as far as special needs adaptations.

You can indeed get a knob on the steering wheel, or a pin or a ring. You can also get floor-mounted steering, if your feet have more mobility than your hands.
You can also get the gear shift, and other normally right-sided controls moved to the left.

Even better, there are several resources, including the car makers themselves, that will fund, or help fund the modifications.

There are many helpful links here:
    http://www.dynamic-living.com/article/car-accessories/

Or, if you have a specific brand of car in mind, talk to your local dealership.

You probably would qualify for a handicap parking sticker. But keep in mind that these are intended for people with mobility limitations. If you can walk without impairment, do you really need one?

  • Question:-What are some quotes on ambition leading to poor consquences?
I need quotes about ambition having negative affects or ambition for bad things just as ambition for pay back. Need for a Macbeth essay.

“He may prove to be totally innocent, but this is a negative -- a big distraction -- for his presidential ambitions and management of the Senate.” - Ethan Siegal

“Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you believe that you too can become great.” - Mark Twain

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” - Albert Einstein

  • Question:-“Ambition must be made to counteract ambition…”How do these words fit into the Constitutional frameworkthat wa?
Evaluate Madison’s words: “Ambition must be made to counteract ambition…”How do these words fit into the Constitutional frameworkthat was adopted? How well do these words reflect the needs of the 21st century?

Answer:-Ambition is viewed as a quality that can be both a positive and a negative, depending on the situation and other attributes the person possesses. In terms of the Constitution, it can be seen as a reference to the "checks and balances" system in place for congress and the President (majority votes, laws passing both houses, and veto power), to help stop unfair laws from being passed that clearly work to th favor of one group. Of course the issue that comes up is when one political party is in the White House and also control both the House and Senate. These days, more than ever, it seems that voters will blindly vote for their political party without being sure of what the vote is even for. I'm not sure if that answers your home work question, or not :)

  • Question:-What the difference between pride and ambition?
I was reading something online and it said something was done out of pride rather than ambition? What's the difference?

Answer:-Pride is when you are proud of yourself for accomplishing something. Ambition is to have the drive and really want to accomplish something. If you do something out of pride rather than ambition it means you dont really care about doing something but you know you can and you are proud of it.

  • Question:-How does the theme of ambition surface in the text of Macbeth?
I'm writing a two page essay for English on how the theme of ambition surfaces in the text Macbeth, and I need quotes, and whatnot. I'm so confused, I just need help haha

Answer:-There's ambition in the sense that Macbeth wants to revenge his father by killing Claudius, and he wants to kill Laertes.
Contrarily, there is ambition from Laertes and Claudius to kill Macbeth.
  • Question:-What are the effects of having too much power and even more ambition?
I am doing a powerpoint presentation in which I am comparing Adolf Hitler and Lady Macbeth and both of them having too much power and even more ambition to come out on top. Also, what could be the purpose of my presentation? Please Help!

Answer:-Well I'm no scholar or anything. But power more often than not tends to corrupt a person as they become aware of the fact that they solely decide their circumstances, and the circumstances of others. Ambition can be good so long as it doesn't get too far out of hand. I remember a quote....and I actually think it's from The Simpsons', " One person may be able to change the world, but they probably shouldn't. " Basically meaning, why should one person get to decide the fate of others? I don't know much about Macbeth, but Hitlers' ambition caused him to impact the fate of millions, if not billions of people. The purpose of your presentation could be to show that the winners are the one's that write the history books, the losers are the villains, and because they lost, they have no say in the matter.

  • Question:-What is the best version of the ORIGINAL Brothers Grimm fairy tales?
I've found many versions of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, but really want the original. I love books, but like the original versions not censored or exagerated versions. Don't worry, I do not intend to buy the book for a child. I intend to read them myself. Does anyone know what publisher/translator has the most true to original version of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales?

Answer:-The Brothers Grimm fairy tales were changed to protect children. If you the want the original book, it is "Grimm's Grimmest". The quote on the back of the book reads, "Grimm's Grimmest presents the original, unsanitized, unholy tales as they were first collected by the Brothers Grimm."
  • Question:-What are the differences between the original Grimm Tale of Snow White and the Disney Retelling?
What are the differences between the original Grimm Tale of Snow White and the Disney Retelling: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? I am Writing a critical essay for a class and I would like to make sure that I have discussed all the differences and similarities and have not left out any details. Please include any of the differences and similarities that you notice. Thanks in Advance.

Answer:-well i know that walt disney was the first person to give names to the seven dwarfs. and in the original the queen uses a corset and comb before the apple to put snow white into a comatose state. the prince doesn't have to kiss snow white to bring her back to life again. and at their wedding the old queen is invited and made to dance in shoes of iron which were made red hot by a stove. she danced till she dropped dead. you should read the original and compare them for yourself. here, follow this link:

  • Question:-Which of Brothers' Grimm fairy tales is considered the darkest and least meant for children?
I need to choose a story to animate for my final project and I know I want to use one of Brothers' Grimm fairy tales. With few exceptions, like Simpsons or Futoram, animation is still largely considered to be for children and I want to address older audience. So I am looking for an interesting, but dark and "not for kids" story.

Answer:-Gingerbread Man--where the witch cooks the little kids
Little Red Riding Hood (was that the name?) one with the wolf
    Rumplestiltzen--one where guy fell asleep
  • Question:-Is it acceptable to teach my children the literal truth of the Brothers Grimm stories?
I've being a personal believer in the Grimm doctrine ever since my Dad taught it to me and his Dad before him and so on and I'm wondering if I should do the same for my children?

    Grimm Bless!

Answer:-Of course. The Grimm Brothers gathered ancient "true" tales from the people and wrote them down after all.
  • Question:-Where could I find a picture of the Jabberwocky from the sisters grimm series?
I need a picture of the Jabberwocky from the Sisters Grimm book series, but not the one on the cover. There is one in the book at the very end, but I cant seem to find it online. Its not on the website, wikipedia, or google that I have found yet. Can anyone tell me where to find it?

Answer:-What an interesting question. Maybe you will just have to scan it with a scanner.
  • Question:-What are some spells to control someone because I want to control the Grimm Reaper?
It seems interesting because I have a family that has been doing some bad things in life and who died and I am going to make the Grimm Reaper go and take that person to Heaven. And I want to know what will happen if the curse breaks will the Grimm Reaper come for me next. Or will he not do anything.

Answer:-He won't do anything to you. You can say prayers for those who you think might be in "hell". You can command the devil to leave your loved one alone, and he must leave them alone. One thing you must remember is that every person makes choices every day. Whether or not those choices are good is all up to that person. There is nothing you can do as far as where they will end up. As long as you do what is right, always stand up for what is right, and don't be afraid to say no when you are under pressure from your peers; you will not have to worry. There will always be a place for you in heaven.

"Get thee behind me Satan." This means he has to go away and leave you alone.
  • Question:-Who sings Lullaby and Goodnight on the Grimm Reaper Cigarette ad?
There's a female that sings the song. Its a Tobacco Free CA ad. The Grimm reaper takes of his cloak to become a female giving out free cigarette samples. The song is stuck in my head and I wanted to know who sings that version of it.

    Answer:-"Lullaby" -HoneyHoney
The two honeys are supossed to be together and you wont find the right singer if you don't leave them together
  • Question:-What is the meaning behind the story snow white by the brothers grimm?
what does the story snow white by the grimm brothers mean?

Answer:-It connects on a number of levels to the legends of the golden bough, as laid iout by James Frazer. While it does not contain the classic slaying of the king and his rebirth, it does contain the classic sympathetic magic of sex to make the land fruitful. Many scholars agree that the "kiss" version is basically a later white wash of the original, wakes her up with sex version. Snow White represents the winter land, slumbering, dormant, then the prince/king figure shows up , throws her one, and spring happens, the crops ripen, the land comes alive again etc... Typical agricultural myth of the seasons and the new season.

Typical agricultural myth of the seasons and the new season.

pay it forward

  • Question:-Paying it forward means that you "pay" or that you have found another way to contribute?
    Holding a door open ?
    A smile?
What is it that makes a better person pay forward?

Answer:-Giving a smile and a friendly hello doesn't cost anything. It makes you feel better along with the person you gave it to.
  • Question:-What are some creative ways to "pay it forward"?
I just saw a story on Yahoo about a two hour stretch at a Starbucks during which everyone was paying the check for the car behind them. What are some other ways to pay it forward?

Answer:-Every year I pick some one special at the bank, post office, or grocery store to surprise with a christmas gift. These are the people that often get forgotten around the holidays and its a wonderful surprise.
  • Question:-What do you think the best way is to "PAY IT FORWARD"?
Please no silly cracks. I am really interested in your thoughts.

If you could do anything (money is no object) what would you do to help others and pay it forward?

What tugs at your heart strings?

Answer:-I would buy a van to take the homebound shoping. Where I live we do not have a bus system or taxies. The homebound that do not have helpful children or their kids do not live close by have nothing except what meals on wheels brings to eat, which is only 5 meals a week. They need microwaveable meals, snacks, drinks, etc. in their frig. Most have just water. And think about tolit paper etc. Those that are unable to ride in the van and do thier own shopping could have a list ready for the driver to pick up.
  • Question:-How important do you think it is to Pay It Forward?
Random acts of kindness towards others for which you expect nor want nothing in return. How important is it to you to do this acts and if they are done to you to pay them forward???

Answer:-It is very important. It's a concept that I really believe in. Did it before it was popular. Makes me feel good. I wish more people performed random kinds of kindness. This world would be a better place.
  • Question:-How do you "Pay It Forward" after someone helps you with something you needed and could not do yourself?
In the movie Pay It Forward there was a teacher that told his class about doing things for others because it is the right thing to do.
Helping those who cannot help themselves. And they in turn do something to help others.

Answer:-Well, if someone helps you with something, then you can "pay it forward" by helping someone else with something. Then, they can help someone else with something, and so on.
  • Question:-Organizing a pay it forward this weekend, does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm just looking for some suggestions as to what i can do to make the pay it forward survive. Like maybe hand the person i help out a laminated piece of paper with the very basic rules of paying it forward on it and ask them to do the same when they do? Maybe some other things or even ideas about how i can help someone and how much money to spend, or what type of person to target to help. Personally i'm thinking of helping a single parent

Answer:-When we do ours locally, we just ask for the person we did the good deed for to pay it forward. Usually word of mouth gets around. IT doesn't hurt to give them a flyer with something positive on it to help remind them of it.

The weird thing is, just little kind things can accumulate into large change. A very real change to attitudes, and to overall character. Just holding a door open and smiling at the person you held it for can usually make a change in that person, however small, and it may only be short lived. But more often than not it is enough to make a fundamental change on the quantum level. And there is the magic in kindness. It is infectious, and you feel better after doing it.

Children are especially interested in paying it forward. The elderly always like to pitch in. Its the folks in between that very often are not so easy to convince. If everyone took a conscious effort into paying things forward we coluld make such change in our world it would be frightening. IT should be second nature to help each other. We are children of God. We should love each other and do things with out some devious end game.

Years ago, I was a struggling single father. I had little spare money. But I was buying some groceries. BAsic, cheap simple stuff for me and my kids. Its what i could afford, as nutricious as i was able to cram into the meager supplies that they were. In front of me was a young couple. With a small child and one on the way. Clearly they were in some form of stress as they were agitated and the girl was crying. Apparently they were in the working poor group, make too much for help, but not enough to really get it together. They had basically what I had, plus baby formula. The girl was crying because she knew that they were going to be short. Even after all the coupons she cut, they ended up being 5 dollars short. I thought, I'll just throw in the 5 bucks. But then I felt something over whelm me. I had the money to pay for all their groceries, and mine. So I just had the cashier add my groceries to theres. I paid for it all. By doing this, I was able to put them over the hump. They then had the money for emergencies over the next month.

I am no saint, and I am so flawed its scary. But sometimes, we all need to step up. Without the need for thanks, without the need for adoration. OUr world is a small one now. We have no where else to go. So we must get along. Wars will only destroy what little land we have. Killing each other chips away at our souls.

So, just remind folks to pay it forward.
  • Question:-What are three reasons why Pay it Forward is such a fantastic movie?
What are three reasons why Pay it Forward is such a great movie? (Ex; realism, humor, action, movie, plot twists, special effects, etc.) I have two reasons so far: Realism, a good message, and I can't think of a next one. Please help?
    Thanks <3

Answer:-realism - I'd say partially. This movie is about people's lives, but I don't think that such kind of situation is possible in today's world.
I think that the idea itself is very good and nice. This movie is about a dream, that people should think about each others and they should really treat others the way they want to be treated.
Unfortunately It's only a fairy tale today.
  • Question:-Are there any other plan to change the world like the movie Pay It Forward?
I have an assignment to do in one of my classes, which is designing a plan to change the world like the character Trever did in Pay It Forward.
    Any help?

Answer:-i do it a few times a week, when i stop to change a stranger's tire on the side of the road, they offer money and i'll tell em no, just help the next person (pay it forward), if i help someone for no reason and they offer money, i tell them to just help the next person. i have gotten good responses from the people, but have no idea if they continued the trend....
  • Question:-What is the message of Pay it Forward and how is it shown?
I have recently watched the film pay it forward and was wandering the following question.

    Serious answers only PLEASE! :)

Answer:-If you really watched it, you'd know. What is this for, a film class?
  • Question:-Can you think of ways to pay it forward to make our world better place?
Helping a stranger pay for their groceries at the check out line, going to a nursing home to read/spend time with the patience etc. Tell me what can you do to pay it forward?

Answer:-volonteer at after school programs, environmentally conscious clubs (help clean the rivers =).
