  • Question:-Why is there a war between LPNs and CMAs?
I am enrolled in a 2 yr. AS program and I am upset about the rift <> CMAs and LPNs. CMAs are not nurses, granted and should not represent themselves as such. However, CMAs do have a broad scope of knowledge and do deserve the respect of the health care community. When education is key, why is there so much cat fighting going on? Can't we all just get along and each be happy with what we have decided to do in life?

Answer:-There is a difference in training. LPNs are trained in 4 domains of patient care; med-surg, psychiatry, women's health and pediatrics. Also, we are taught of the nursing process of Assessment (or data gathering for the LPN), Diagnosis (nursing diagnosis), Planning, Implementation and Evaluation. In most states, it is very true that the Medical Assistant works under the license of the physician, but if there is a mistake, the physician is usually held to be more liable whereas a nurse is liable for herself under the Board of Nursing. It seems that the MA position is not as regulated, because some places have on the job training, others have the education, but not the certification/registration and some have a 2 year program while others have a shorter one.

I am also not saying that one is better than the other. What I am saying is that one is licensed, thus is held more liable and responsible than the other. Yes, they do similar tasks, and if someone (meaning the physician) is going to vouch for their additional skills, then, sure, they can perform them. And, I can see how, if an MA is employed at a place where more complicated tasks are performed, that they are able to do more than an LPN. But, it seems to me that if there is a mistake, then, the patient can sue the physician for not delegating a qualified person who is performing the skill properly, but if it is a nurse, then, that nurse can be held legally liable and responsible for her own actions based on the scope of practice. I took a medical assisting course many years ago, and after I took the LPN course, I really saw that it was apples and oranges in the way that we were taught.

Some LPNs say the same thing about RNs..."We do the same thing that they do...we are nurses, too (that is true, we are)"...I already know that we don't. We have skills that run parallel to the RN, for sure. However, they have even more liability and accountablility than we do. Again, this does not say that there are not shotty MAs, LPNs and RNs out there. It is the person that makes the job, not the level of education. However, I see clear differences between how all of these programs teach, and the level of accountability rises with each elevation of title.
  • Question:-Is the CMAS SCUBA certification popular in the philippines?
I'm thinking about taking the CMAS course since it is relatively cheaper than what is being offered in PADI. What are the advantages and disadvantages in pursuing this?

Answer:-Padi is considered the best, but it is a narrow margin.CMAS is well respected. if the price difference between padi and Cmas will keep you from starting diving (need to save more) then take the cmas. Most establish dive centers accept the major accreditation agencies, just call ahead to verify. the important part is to get started. also with a 1 star CMAS you can take Padi specialty courses and after that just use the padi card. One of my dive buddies started with SSI then took a night dive padi course, make sure you dive the wrecks at subic bay great even for beginners.
  • Question:-Who were the performers and what were the songs they sang at the 43rd CMAs?
I watched the 43rd Annual CMAs, and I really liked all the performances. I was wondering, who were all the performers and what song did each one sing? (I know most of the performers but I really want to know the songs :)

    Darius Rucker- Alright
    Miranda Lambert- White Liar
    Sugarland- Keep You
Jamey Johnson & Kid Rock- Between Jennings And Jones
    George Strait- Twang
Kenny Chesney & Dave Mattews Band- I'm Alive
Vince Gill & Daughtry- Can't remember the song, sorry!
    Reba- Consider Me Gone

  • Question:-Is there a website on the internet that shows the CMAs live online?
We dont get abc but we have faster internet so is there a website where i can watch the CMAs live?

Answer:-Its on like the commercial or something or you can look it up at the CBS website if they are gonna going to put it on their website... :) hope it helps, but if you can, watching on tv is better because of the quality
  • Question:-What are some good ideas for Cmas gifts for my 11 and 15 year old brothers?
These kids have lots of the usual video games and electronics, and they already have boyhood staples like fishing poles, BB guns, etc., so I can't get them that stuff...
What on earth could I give them that would really please them? I don't want to do a tired old gift card. What gift would have made you really happy at that age? I have about 40 bucks to spend on each.
    NOT clothes or electronics.

I only have 40 BUCKS to spend.

    Answer:-Look at this site http://www.RobertsCritterCreators.com
  • Question:-How much money do you make doing BPOs & CMAs?
Just want to know if there are other Realtor out there having success with doing Broker Pricing Options and CMAs for banks? Any good sites to go to start?

Answer:-Not a penny, since I refuse to do them. Lenders are notoriously slow to pay for such work, the fees paid are minimal, and most of the time the CMA or BPO doesn't get you any business in terms of listings. I leave the BPO's to the 'newbies'.
  • Question:-What are the differences between CMAs and nurses?
I know that I'd like to be some kind of medical professional, but I'm still deciding which degree to pursue. I know that CMAs and nurses are two different jobs; however, I'm not really sure what the responsibilities of each position are. Can somebody please clairify the responsibilities of CMAs versus nurses?

    Thank you!

Answer:-There are two types of nurses: LPN=Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse (2 year degree) and a RN= Registered Nurse (4 year degree)

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs), or licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses.

LPNs provide basic bedside care. Many LPNs measure and record patients’ vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. They also prepare and give injections and enemas, monitor catheters, dress wounds, and give alcohol rubs and massages. To help keep patients comfortable, they assist with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene, moving in bed, standing, and walking. They might also feed patients who need help eating. Experienced LPNs may supervise nursing assistants and aides.

As part of their work, LPNs collect samples for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, and record food and fluid intake and output. They clean and monitor medical equipment. LPNs also monitor their patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. LPNs gather information from patients, including their health history and how they are currently feeling. They may use this information to complete insurance forms, pre-authorizations, and referrals, and they share information with registered nurses and doctors to help determine the best course of care for a patient.

Registered nurses (RNs), are higher in demand and make better wages than LPN's regardless of specialty or work setting, they treat patients, educate patients and the public about various medical conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. LPN's/CMA's cannot adminster medications or drugs.

RNs teach patients and their families how to manage their illness or injury, explaining post-treatment home care needs; diet, nutrition, and exercise programs; and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. Some RNs work to promote general health by educating the public on warning signs and symptoms of disease. RNs also might run general health screening or immunization clinics, blood drives, and public seminars on various conditions.

When caring for patients, RNs establish a plan of care or contribute to an existing plan. Plans may include numerous activities, such as administering medication, including careful checking of dosages and avoiding interactions; starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products; administering therapies and treatments; observing the patient and recording those observations; and consulting with physicians and other health care clinicians. Some RNs provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aids regarding patient care. RNs with advanced educational preparation and training may perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and may have prescriptive authority.

RNs can specialize in one or more areas of patient care. There generally are four ways to specialize. RNs can choose a particular work setting or type of treatment, such as perioperative nurses, who work in operating rooms and assist surgeons. RNs also may choose to specialize in specific health conditions, as do diabetes management nurses, who assist patients to manage diabetes. Other RNs specialize in working with one or more organs or body system types, such as dermatology nurses, who work with patients who have skin disorders. RNs also can choose to work with a well-defined population, such as geriatric nurses, who work with the elderly. Some RNs may combine specialties. For example, pediatric oncology nurses deal with children and adolescents who have cancer.

The Certified Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled health professional (MSHP) who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to
the patient. The Medical Assistant is educated and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. The Medical Assistant is directly responsible to the physician-employer who hires him/her or any other physician-appointed supervisor in the facility. • Question:-Is there anywhere i can watch the CMAs live online?
We dont get abc on our tv but we have faster internet so is there a website they show the CMAs live?

    Answer:-
  • Question:-why did taylor swift make a confused face and say what after she performed on the CMAs?
After performing Back to December she said what and had a annoyed/confused face. Does anyone know why?

Answer:-I saw it, I don't know exactly why but I'm thinking that maybe she got a standing ovation...she always gets excited over things like that, she's so humble. I hope someone asks her:)

    UPDATE!!! lol
    Her fiddle player just tweeted:

    caitlinbird caitlin evanson
CMA snow still in my hair- our girl's reaction to the standing ovation was super priceless.."whaaaa?"

michelle duggar

  • Question:-How old is jim-bob and michelle duggar from 19 kids and counting 2011?
I love the show 19 kids and counting:) but i have always wondered how old jim- bob and michelle duggar are. i would appreciate it if someone out there that knows could tell me:D

Answer:-Jim Bob Duggar (born July 18,1965) he is 46.
Michelle Duggar (born September 13,1966) she is 45.
  • Question:-Do you think this new mom of octuplets is giving Michelle Duggar a run for her money?
The mom had 6 kids before taking more fertility treatments and then she had 8 more kids... a grand total of 14 kids! Seriously, after 6, wouldn't you think that's enough?

Anyhow, do you think Michelle Duggar has some "healthy" competition now for the most kids under one roof? LOL.
KItkat- I won't argue with you on that! I make think the Duggars are nutty, but at least they are self sustaining and don't live with their mother.

What I meant by "a run for her money" regards the number of kids and media attention.
Oh and another point- Michelle Duggar didn't use fertility treatments!

Answer:-i think she is an idiot, she isn't even living at home. and she already had six. maybe it was a sign that's enough children your already living with your parents! your husband is going back to iraq. she is so selfish and i am disgusted that she would do such a thing. and my question is how are they going to afford it? and i feel bad for those kids they most likely wont have the greatest life unless TLc picks them which i don't think that they deserve it honestly.

they are no match to the duggars because the duggars can support themselves they were all natural and planned and prepared! its not healthy ha ha.,

    but possibly competition....
  • Question:-Does Michelle Duggar look like she is high?
Do you think that Michelle Duggar looks like she is high on some drugs often... I see her looking in the camera and off in space sometimes when she is thinking it seems to me like shes really high on something.

Answer:-It's a wide-eyed glazed look that most cult members seem to have.
  • Question:-Why do people slam Michelle Duggar for having her older kids help out with the younger kids?
At least it's within the family, you know? Most women go off and leave their kids in daycare pretty much all day and people say nothing bad about that. Why is it so wrong of Mrs. Duggar to have her kids help out?

    Answer:-
  • Question:-What do you think about Michelle Duggar being pregnant with her 19th child?
Apparently they've decided to continue to have children until Michelle physically can't.
Guys I didn't provide my own opinion, the additional note is a fact.

Answer:-more power to her. I dont get why people think she is selfish. decades ago it wasn't abnormal to have big family, and in my opinion those generations seem to be more well adjusted then these crazy kids today
  • Question:-Do you think Anna Duggar and Michelle Duggar get along?
Today on Good Morning America, Michelle and Jim Bob announced their 19th is on the way. Meredith Vieira said congrats and then asked Anna how she is feeling and to me it seemed like Michelle acted as if Anna was "stealing her spotlight". Even in Anna's responses to Merediths questions, she addressed Michelle as "Mrs.Duggar". I don't know about any of you all, but I call my Mother in Law by her first name. Just seems like Anna is not well liked by the "Original Duggar's".

Answer:-I didn't call my mother in law much of ANYTHING the first 6 years of marriage, only started last year after 7 years and now that we've hit 8 I filed for divorce from her abusive son.

I hope my ex never speaks of his family to me again.
I know I wasn't liked by my ILs.

I feel sorry for Anna but she knew what she was getting into when she married #1 of 19.......... :/
  • Question:-Kate Gosselin vs. Michelle Duggar. What do you think of both of these moms?
I enjoy watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 as well as 17 Kids and Counting. I think the difference in the personality of Kate Gosselin and Michelle Duggar is interesting.

What differences do you notice in the 2? What do you think about them, in general? Do you enjoy watching their TV shows?
I relate better to Kate Gosselin. I admire Michelle Duggar's patience, but I don't think I could keep it together all the time like she appears to..lol.

Answer:-I too, love both of the shows, and admire BOTH moms for what they do!! I feel I can better relate to Kate's parenting styles....and they keep it real for the camera's. However, Im not saying that Michelle is not keeping it real. As she is! They are the way they are, as they are deeply religious, and thats what they base their family values on. I dont think she's taking her children to the thrift store because they cant afford it, but simply because there's more to life than name brand clothing, and trying to fit in! I take my children to thrift shops, as well as I have enough pride to shop in them myself...and my family isnt struggling. Its just that materialistic crap doesnt mean anything to me. So I can relate to her better that way! I think they both are very patient loving moms, and I admire them both, because no way could I handle more than the 3 Im about to have!
  • Question:-What happens to Michelle Duggar on her 19th or 20th child?
They say it is going to change their lives for ever? What does that mean? I am so worried for her. She could have a stroke what does that mean? If you are reading, I hope everything goes well.

Answer:-haha i just saw this commercial like 10 minutes ago and ran to my computer to find out just wat ur asking!
i had noooo idea she was having her 19th?! where was i....wowow
anyways...she was supposed to hav her kid march 18th but instead had it like december 11th...it was only 25 weeks old. they were afraid the kid was going to have mental problems or complications because having a baby this early usually results in severe problems. i read theirs an 82% chance the baby will be fine...i havnt heard anything so far on the condition of the child but i think its ok since it hasnt hit big news tht its retarded or dead or anything like tht...but who knows. btw the childs name is Josie Brooklyn :)
  • Question:-What health risks is Michelle Duggar taking having so many kids?
I don't care to hear peoples opinions on if what they are doing is right or wrong....just what she is risking health wise? How would that many kids affect her body?

Answer:-every pregnancy comes with health risks whether it is your first or 19th. so obviously each time she gets pregnant she faces all of the "normal" risks.
the baby she just had a few days ago was delivered by cesarean and i am pretty sure it was not her first c-section. having multiple c-sections can cause a lot of scar tissue and then complications from that. otherwise there's no risk that i know of from just being pregnant a lot. you are supposed to wait at least 6 months (probably varies based on who you ask) between pregnancies so your body can heal and the older you get the riskier the pregnancies become.
but again, i am pretty sure that just being pregnant a lot does not negatively affect a woman's health.
  • Question:-What do you make of Michelle duggar having her 19th child?
Do you think it's a bit much considering her youngest child is only 8 months, and she will become a grandmother next month?

What do you think of her views on no prenatal testing?

Do you think it's a good idea to have a large family?

Would you prefer a small or large family, how many?

Answer:-Do you think it's a bit much considering her youngest child is only 8 months, and she will become a grandmother next month?

Well, in a purely human logic sense, I do think it's a bit much and worry about her health. But knowing their beliefs on having as many children as God is willing to give them I am not shocked and would expect them to do nothing less. I mean, you don't get 18 kids by saying, hmmmm I think we'll shoot for 18 and stop. They said, we will leave it to God, period. That doesn't mean they stop having sex, doesn't mean they change their mind when God gives'em too much, it just means they'll leave it to God. You don't renig on your beliefs midway through...even if they don't make good sense to other people.

What do you think of her views on no prenatal testing?

They do prenatal testing. We've seen a million ultrasound visits and doctor visits. Maybe you are talking about the amnio test. I'm in agreement with that. From what I understand it doesn't fix anything, they just tell you if your child is likely to have Down's Syndrome and that gives you the chance to abort him or her before they are born. If you KNOW you wouldn't abort your child what's the point in having that test? If you are talking about some other tests, I dunno. I didn't realize they skipped the health checkup parts.

Do you think it's a good idea to have a large family?

For some, I do. It's up to them and God. My only concern ever with these folks or those like them is that they are truly caring for, loving and protecting their children adequately. And of course, you can't tell that by watching t.v. no matter how close to 'reality' it's supposed to be. Assuming no one or 3 people (most likely the oldest girls) are being overburdened by family chores and that everyone is happy and healthy, I think large families are great.

Would you prefer a small or large family, how many?

I've got 1 and that works for me, lol. If God wanted me to have more, that would be fine too. But I don't know that I'm an 18 kid kind of girl. I'm not disciplined enough. I know that already.

scott hall

  • Question:-Scott Hall?
Is Scott Hall gay or straight?
the reason i asked that is because on tna thay kind of hinted it by callin kevein nash and scott love birds and stuff, and also by all of the gimmicks in wwf too.i just got bored and so i finally asked it.ppl dont have 2 answer my stupid question by telling me wat i already know("STUPID QUESTION!) sorry!

    Answer:-Straight thank god
  • Question:-What is the current state of Scott Hall?
I have been a big fan of the wrestler Scott Hall for many years, during his WCW days, and when the nWo reunited in the WWF in 2002. Since then all I know is he had a brief stint in TNA, which I don't know how that went, or how long it lasted. Does anyone know if he's still an active wrestler, or if hes getting back into wrestling again soon?

Answer:-AFTER LEAVING WWE SCOTT HALL HAS WORKED FOR TNA & ON
INDEPENTENT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TIME HALL RETURNED TO
WRESTLING WORLD AS RAZOR RAMON IN WWC AND WHERE HE
BECOME WWC UNIVERSAL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP BY BEATING
CARLITO & THEN APOLLO IN THE MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING
HALL SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED HIS GOLD AGAINST PRIMO COLON
ON WWC BUT IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT HALL IS COMING BACK
TO TNA BUT IT WAS NOT HAPPEN SO HALL JOINED JCW IT WAS
HALL'S FIRST APPEARENCE SINCE LEAVING TNA HALL HAS NOT
STATED YET THAT HE IS RETIRED SO LETS SEE IS HE COMING
BACK TO WWE OR TNA OR WORKING ON INDEPENDENT CIRCUIT
YOU CAN READ EVERY THING ABOUT SCOTT HALL HERE
    CHECK THIS OUT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Hall
  • Question:-Do you think Scott Hall deserved a world title more than Kevin Nash?
Kevin Nash (Diesel) probably the worst world champion. I'd rather seen his nWo partner Scott Hall during his Razor Ramon gimmick win the title. What do you think?

Answer:-Yeah Razor would have been a great champ, probably didn't politic in them days, that's why he didn't get the title, i mean HBK had 2 have been a big part in getting Diesel the title.
  • Question:-What is the name of Scott Hall finishing move?
On the video game called Smackdown vs Raw 2007,

I know he is not on there, but I am sure his finishing move might still be on there somewhere with a different name

Does any one know what Scott Hall finishing move would be call on this play station game?

    Answer:-the razors edge in wwf
    the outsiders edge in wcw
they both were a crucifix powerbomb
ohh on the game try powerbomb 2 they dont have scott hall's version in the game
  • Question:-Do You Think Scott Hall Will Still Be Alive 10 Years From Now ?
Scott Hall is currently 51 years old. With his alcohol and drug problems, do you think Scott Hall will live to see see 61 years of age ?

Answer:-I think he'll probably live to see 61 years of age, but he won't be wrestling in TNA !
  • Question:-Did Scott Hall really deserve a world title run?
I asked a question the other night about world titles and Scott Hall's name came up. I know he had some talent but he also had a lot of personal problems, so my question is, did he really deserve a chance to run with the world title?

Answer:-Compared to the champions in the WWF at the time... No more than likely he didn't deserve anything, people look back and think "he was a good wrestler why wasn't he a champion?" Because the champions at that time where better. If Scott Hall was around at a different time he had the talent to be world champion but wrestling isn't just about talent and if you can't trust a wrestler to show up sober why would you trust him with the most pressured job a wrestler can have? In WCW he was a wreck you couldn't trust and in the WWF he wasn't as good or as big a star as the people that where champion at the time.
  • Question:-scott hall?
where is he and do you think he will come back to wwe what about nash is kurt angle really hurt
    crazyist match ever

Answer:-Scott Hall admitted himself in a rehab program offered by the WWE. He had some relapse issues with alcoholism and drug abuse after his wife left him and took the kids. The last report I read was that Hall had recently gotten his health and habits under control - losing much of the weight he had gained - and was on a good path so far.
  • Question:-do you think scott hall is the reason for monday night wars and the nWo?
remember when scott hall came out and said "you know who i am, but you dont know why im here...you wana go to war?" do you think that was the start of something great, because of scott hall?
or if you think it is something else besides scott hall, what do you think is a bigger reason?

Answer:-He was part of it but the Monday night wars started off the year before in 1995 when Bischoff took over WCW.The Wars were a response to the WWF Monday night Raw edition as both shows aired at the same time.Bischoff promised a War with a new promo with better angles. matches & new stars.
The Bash at the Beach 1996 was The Outsiders: Hall & Nash with mystery partner v Luger,Savage & Sting. The mystery guy turned out to be Hulk Hogan. The NWO & the Wars then took off for definite.
  • Question:-Anyone else notice the recent increased exposure of Scott Hall?
    Here is my case

They had Scott Hall impersonated in the HBK Kennedy skit. He was in the Raw banner for Greatest Raw Superstar. I have seen Raw show at least 5 clips of Razor Ramon when they had Raw's 15th anniversary. Never before have I seen WWE show Scott Hall so much. I actually think WWE should sign him. He could come back and attack HBK and they could have HBK vs Scott Hall in a Ladder match. It makes sense.

Answer:-I saw that too. I guess it would be cool, but i don't think hall is in any condition to climb a ladder.
  • Question:-What are your thoughts on former wwe star Scott Hall in jail?
TMZ is reporting that Scott Hall checked himself into a Florida jail on Tuesday to begin his 10-day sentence after being found guilty of resisting arrest outside a Florida bar back in May 2010. Hall will be serving his sentence in the medical unit of Seminole County Jail due to his health condition

Answer:-Yeah I heard the news just last week. In my opinion, it's getting ridiculous. If his health is so bad that they want him to be in a health unit, then he should not be competing in wrestling events. Hopefully Scott will get back on the right path. He's been spiraling down a messy and dangerous path for a very long time now. Also, if Scott did not want to serve the 10 days, he should have hired Jeff Hardy's attorney lol, cause look how that's turning out for him. But in all seriousness, I hope he recovers and eventually goes in the right path.

Healthy Foods

Healthy Foods

Eating is one the most important events in everyone’s life. We enjoy eating - it’s part of who we are and part of our culture; in fact, eating is the hottest universal topic of all times. We depend on eating: the foods we eat are the sole source of our energy and nutrition. We know so much about eating: we are born with the desire to eat and grown up with rich traditions of eating. But we also know so little about eating - about how the foods we eat everyday affect our health. We are more confused than ever about the link between diet and health: margarine is healthier than butter or not; a little alcohol will keep heart attacks at bay but cause breast cancer; dietary vitamin antioxidants can prevent lung cancer or can not. Eating is a paradox and a mystery that our ancestors tried and modern scientists are trying to solve.

Based on experiences and traditions, our ancestors have used foods and plant materials to treat various kinds of illness. Manuscripts discovered from a tomb (dated 168 B.C.) in China described prescriptions for 52 ailments with herbs, grains, legumes, vegetables, animal parts, and minerals. Ancient Sumerians recorded the use of 250 medicinal plants on tablets five thousand years ago. Today, plant and food remedies are still the major medicinal source for 80% of the world’s population.

The pharmacological roles of everyday foods have long been neglected by modern medicine due to lack of proven scientific validity. The main focus of modern medicine has been on pharmaceuticals. With the invention of modern chemotherapy by Paul Erhlich in the early twentieth century and sulfa drugs and antibiotics in the 1930’s and 1940’s, it seemed as if chemical medicines would take care of all our ills. However, while there continues to be great strides made in the understanding and use of pharmaceuticals, there is also widespread dissatisfaction with both them and the system of medicine that utilizes them. This dissatisfaction is centered around the feeling that they are too disease-oriented, and perhaps too limited by their precision to cope effectively with the subtle factors and interrelationships that compromise human health and disease. The precise and pure nature of modern biomedical pharmaceuticals also tends to increase their side effects. In addition, with the victory over many common infectious diseases, more people are concerned with chronic degenerative processes and with prevention of disease. The increasing concerns have started a new movement in medical research. More and more mainstream scientists are reaching back to the truth of ancient food folk medicines and dietary practices for clues to remedies and antidotes to our modern diseases.

Research on pharmacological effects of foods is fast-paced and the results are exciting. The mystery of what foods can do for or to us has started to unveil. In order to effectively use foods for our health benefits, the following issues need to be considered:

  • Keep up with the most recent scientific findings and make use of them for our health benefits
  • Try to use variety of whole foods as much as possible instead of isolated dietary supplements for your health problems - they are safer, cheaper, and usually more effective since they can provide multiple and balanced disease fighting capabilities
  • Choice of foods is important: since healing power of a food is depending on the content of pharmacologically active constituents that differ among foods, and certain foods may need to be avoided due to their disease encouraging activities
  • How do you prepare and eat your foods can affect their pharmacological effects
  • Concerns about multiple health conditions: foods that benefit one health condition may be harmful to others
  • Overall nutritional values of foods

10 Essential Health Tips

"He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything."

1. Move More

Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!

2. Cut Fat

Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise. Thought for the day: Lean, mean, fat-burning machine…. Then be one!

3. Quit Smoking

The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cigarette…. the next one.

4. Reduce Stress

Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.

5. Protect Yourself from Pollution

If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.

6. Wear Your Seat Belt

Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes. Thought for the day: Buckle down and buckle up.

7. Floss Your Teeth

Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it's because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don't? Thought for the day: Floss and be your body's boss.

9. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook

There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Thought for the day: You can't be unhappy when you're smiling or singing.
