- Question:-What was the biggest reason for Mike Leach's firing from Texas Tech?
I'm curious as to what the Yahoo community thinks. Was it his (alleged) treatment of Adam James coupled with his family's complaints? Or was it the fact that Mike Leach was due a hefty $800,000 bonus this past Friday? Do you know of another reason? 10 pts for the most thought provoking, grammatically correct answer.
Answer:-The biggest reason is that he stuck to his guns and refused to apologize when they offered him a way out. He refused to back off and allow the school to give something to the media/accusers/etc.
The $800K was a tiny part EXCEPT in how quickly they made the decision. It represents an insignificant (6.7%) part of his nearly $13M contract.
The stage had been set with many incidents over the past year. The shed incident gave them a focal point and his stubbornness pulled the trigger. - Question:-Question concerning concussions and the allegations against Mike Leach?
I am aware of the situation concerning Mike Leach and his treatment of injured WR Adam James. However, I am not fully aware of the effects that isolation in an electrical closet or dark room has on a concussed individual. So what makes this treatment so bad that he deserves to get fired? Please help me understand.
Answer:-Sensory Deprivation can be helpful for a concussion. This would be done maybe at home in a dark room in a comfortable chair or in an SD chamber. The stories Leach is putting out now are called "Lawyering Up".
Their purpose is to divert attention from the fact that he was planning on punishing a kid he (Justified or not) didn't like. Perhaps the kid was a goof-off. But, Leach is now trying to protect himself from a lawsuit that his actions have qualified him for quite well.
Coupled with SEVERAL earlier actions that he got away with, this latest action that (while not likely to be dangerous to the kids health) could easily be grounds for criminal prosecution from the articles I have read. - Question:-Will Texas Tech regret their idiotic decision to fire Mike Leach?
Seriously, this kid Adam James is a spoiled brat. Leach only got fired cuz of Adam's daddy. Espn is a bunch of crap. They have FAILED to properly cover this story. SAVE MIKE LEACH!
Answer:-Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. You ever met the jerk? I did when he was OC at Oklahoma. Anything bad that happens to Leach is okay by me. - Question:-Does anyone find the firing of Mike Leach a bit ironic?
The school that hired Bobby Knight as a head basketball coach, fires Mike Leach? Double standard?
Answer:-Yeah, I hadn't really thought about that, but it's true. Knight was a coach that made a career out of mistreating others and Texas Tech welcomed him with open arms. It sure seems like there is a double standard in play. - Question:-Has Mike Leach ever been a position coach?
Everywhere i've looked their has been no mention of whether Mike Leach was ever a position coach. But that doesn't make any sense to me, so has did he start out like most coaches coaching a position?
Answer:-Yes he was the OL coach and OC at Iowa Weslyan and was QB coach at Valdosta St while serving as OC, and I think he was QB coach at KY as well. Most all coordinators will also coach a position.
He got a masters from US Sports Academy after leaving BYU then went on to Pepperdine Law School, his first coaching job was at Cal Poly in San Louis Obispo in 1987, then one year at College of the Desert as an assistant, then went to Euro League, then got his first OC job at Iowa Weslyn. - Question:-what happened with Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach?
I guess I just missed it or didn't care, but I completely missed what happened to get Mike Leach fired.
Answer:-On December 28, 2009, Leach was suspended indefinitely by Texas Tech pending investigation of alleged inappropriate treatment of Adam James, son of former SMU and New England Patriots running back (and current ESPN college football analyst) Craig James. On December 16, James suffered a concussion in practice. He was examined the next day, and told not to practice that afternoon due to the concussion and an abnormally high heart rate. According to a James family source, Leach ordered him to stand in a dark shed near the Raiders' practice facility. Leach also threatened to kick James off the team if he left the shed.[ According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Leach thought that James was faking the injury. School officials gave Leach an ultimatum--apologize to James in writing by December 28 or Leach would be suspended. Leach refused to do so; his attorney, Ted Liggett, said his client didn't dispute the facts, but didn't think he'd done anything wrong.
Read more at the link below... - Question:-On ESPN radio 12/29 Doug Gottlieb compared the Mike Leach case with a famous broadcaster. Anyone know who?
He said the broadcaster also had a contentious contract negotiations with his network and so when the next contract was being negotiated, the network dropped him and they said this is similar to what Texas Tech is doing to Mike Leach. Anyone know who the broadcaster is? I remember the situation, but can't remember the broadcaster. Thanks.
Answer:-Marv Albert? - Question:-Who else is glad that fool Mike Leach got told to take a hike?
That fatass abuses his players and should be thrown in jail. Who the hell locks their own player in an electrical closet? I hope Leach never has kids.
Answer:-I've had two concussions in my life. Both times my doctor told me to spend as much time as possible the first couple of days "in a dark room". If it weren't for James' last name, Leach would still have a job. Back to the bottom of the Big 12 South.
Bring on the Tide! - Question:-Mike Leach is a moron and needs to be fired immediatley?
What kind of a coach locks his own player in an electrical closet when he has a concussion? I hope Leach never has kids.
Answer:-No, Leach freaking rocks and is the greatest. - Question:-Do you think Mike Leach Deserves to be fired as head coach of Texas Tech?
I dont think he should have been fired. Adam James and his father are both BIG babies. Seems to me like Adam James has been a brat this whole year. I dont blame Mike at all. What do YOU think?
Answer:-Let me pose a question to you guys that have played football..
What was Adam James doing with his cell phone at practice? If I'm not mistaken, the video in question was shot using his cell.
IF James had concussion like symptoms then sticking his butt in a dark room, out of the bright light, is the right thing to do. Why? With concussion type symptoms, people are more susceptible to the light and could possibly make the issue worse.
IMO, Craig James used his media contacts to try and "influence" Mike Leach into playing his son more. When Leach refused, this is when this whole drama filled story came out.
Again, IMO Tech football just took 3 giant steps backwards. Leach should not have been fired, the school was looking for a way out of the contract they gave him. Enter Adam James...
You can bet your ass that Leach will get a gig somewhere and every time he plays Tech, he won't "call off the dogs" and handily spank Tech.

osteopathy
- Question:-osteopathy?
Well right now (15-sophmore year) I'm wondering what I want to be and I had my eyes on being a Chiropracter. Then I saw something called osteopathy and reasearched into that.
I realize that they are really similar to Chiropractics and basically they just work on more body parts....
My question is what exactly is the difference...like what do they do that chiropractics don't.
P.S. Like I did some research and I know some of the basic differences (not too much in debt though...) so I want to know more information on it.
Thank you!
Answer:-Osteopathy...was originally a drug free way to heal...Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy..several years ago the US Osteopathic community became almost absorbed into medicine. Now few DOs in the US use OMT. The profession has the same specialties as MDs....surgeon, family practice, etc. DOs write prescriptions, do surgery. etc., same as MD.
Chiropractors do not write prescriptions. In some states do only minor in office surgery (skin lesions). They treat the neuromusculoskeletal system with Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment....primarily the spine...but can work well with any joint. Some use physical therapy modalities in addition to the manipulation. Most have relationship with MD/DO community and refer to appropriate speciality when needed.
Training time about the same.
DOs are "mainstreamed" as a part of medicine
DCs are not because they do not prescribe drugs. The ones I know do not want to Rx medications. That is why they chose to be DC. - Question:-Can a doctor of osteopathy specialize, such as psychiatry? Also do DO schools require MCAT scores?
Can a doctor of osteopathy specialize, I am planning on becoming a psychiatrist, but I have been looking into DO schools as well. Also do DO schools require MCAT scores?
Answer:-Yes, DO's specialize and Yes, they ask for MCAT's - Question:-What university offers equine osteopathy courses in the US?
I am looking to complete an equine osteopathy course and would like all the info i can get
Answer:-http://www.thewholehorse.com/osteopathy.html - Question:-What college or university can i get a doctor of medicine or osteopathy?
What college or university can i get a doctor of medicine or osteopathy?
plz help idk what ones i should apply to i want to know all my choices
Answer:-You need to earn a bachelor's degree before you can enroll at a medical or osteopathic school. Be sure to take the pre-med classes which are listed on medical school websites. These classes are offered at virtually every general four-year college and university in the USA (not art schools, for example). - Question:-Failing a class and becoming a doctor of osteopathy, is it possible?
So I'm so confused. I want to become a Doctor of Osteopathy and specialize in pediatric oncology. From what I've heard when you go for your DO they accept a retake grade and that replaces the bad grade you recieved for that class (whereas if you go for your MD they average the two grades together, A + F = C). Is this true, or am I just hearing rumors?
Answer:-Find out the school's actual policy on retakes, don't rely on hearsay. - Question:-Do Doctors of Osteopathy need a licensure and/or certification?
In my health class we are doing a project on certain careers. One question is if Doctors of Osteopathy need a licensure and/or a certification. Do they?? Please help! I can't find half the answers to these questions!
Answer:-1] Doctors of Osteopathy AND Docotors of medicine need:
4 year bachelor's degree, and
4 years of med school, and
3 or more years of residency
2] Doctors of Osteopathy need a license to practice, just like Doctors of Medicine. - Question:-What should I expect from an Dr. of Osteopathy?
I called a new rheumatology practice for an appointment, and the doctor they assigned me to is a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy). What should I expect?
Answer:-You need to realize that when asking this question on an "alternative medicine" board, you will get very biased responses. In truth, you probably won't notice the difference between a DO and an MD. A DO is still able to prescribe medicine and most of them use conventional medicine in 90% of their practice. And the person who claimed that DO's don't "throw pills at patients" like MD's do, is just plain ignorant on many levels. Some DO's prescribe drugs like its going out of style, and most MD's and DO's are actually very similar in their prescribing habits. DO's are more likely to occasionally include things like spinal manipulation (aka, chiropractic), but they don't believe that it will cure the disease by itself. They do it to complement the primary treatment. And yes, DO's often take the exact same classes as MD's, but there are some differences in their training and coursework. DO programs are not as competitive to get in as MD programs, so that might play a slight role on the intelligence of the overall population of DO's versus MD's, but I wouldn't extrapolate that down to make an individual judgement of your practitioner. There is a wider range in the quality of care with DO's than MD's, but some DO's are truly fantastic and some DO's are pretty poor. If you are really worried about it, just ask the DO what he specifically might do differently than an MD. Most likely, your treatment will be the same. - Question:-What is the difference between chiropractic and osteopathy?
Which is better to see; a chiropractor or an osteopath? I am having problems with either my muscles or my nerves in my back (not sure, different doctors have said different things.) and I am getting a lot of sharp pains to my neck and a lot of head aches under pressure and stress. I was on bed rest for 3 days as I couldn't lift my head or turn my neck.
Answer:-It really depends on your goals and philosophy of health. Chiropractors believe the power that created the body, heals the body. They view your body as a whole, and think of you as a self healing organism. They adjust the spine to free up the nervous systems of subluxations (fixation in your spine that may or may not be causing you the pains, but when present they interfere with your nervous system making you less healthy). With a freely moving spine, your nervous system will function optimally and heal itself. Neck pain, head aches, and pain are just symptoms, chiropractors treat the cause which is subluxation derived from fixations in the spine from trauma, stress, poor posture, and exposure to toxins.
To clear up the misconception of education, Chiropractors spend 3-4 years in Chiropractic college, and have a very similar curriculum as Medical Doctors. Just replace the surgery and pharmaceutical classes with adjusting technique and nutrition classes. In British Medical Journal May 2003, "Who pays for the pizza?", it is said that 60% of the medical research and 2/3rds of the medical institutions have economic ties to the pharmaceutical companies" So although it may be longer, future doctors are being taught what Big Pharma wants, not what is always best for you.
Only 10-15 % of osteopaths practice manipulations, which means close to 80% will just write you a prescription for pain meds. If you want to treat the symptoms and do not care about correcting the cause of your pain, then this may be a good solution for you.
We are not genetically programmed to be sick, we are built to be well and thrive. There are no drugs that will make you healthier. Chiropractors study wellness, MD's and DO's study pathologies. If you wanted to get rich, would you study a rich person or a poor person? If you wanted to be happy, would you study a depressed person or a motivated upbeat person?
I hope this answers your questions and raises a few more for you to consider, feel free to e-mail with any others - Question:-What is the difference between a Medical Doctor and Doctor of Osteopathy?
I am looking for a family doctor right now, and would like to know the difference between the two. What is the best of the two?
Answer:-Opinions will differ, but, an osteopath is actually MORE trained than an M.D. Osteo does mean bone, but, an osteopath can do manipulations like a chiropractor and operate, and they take the whole person into consideration. If you go there for a cold, they will take the rest of your life into consideration before treating, and they care about ALL of you, whereas an M.D. will just take care of your "specific" complaint at the moment. Both are VERY good, but in my opinion an osteopath is better. I see one. Can you tell? - Question:-What is a doctor of osteopathy?
I just started using a doctor of osteopathy. How are they different from a regular MD? Are they more knowledgable than regular MD's?
Answer:-Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or D.O.s, apply the philosophy of treating the whole person (holistic approach) to the prevention (medical), diagnosis and treatment of illness, disease and injury using conventional medical practice such as drugs and surgery, along with manual therapy (OMM).
Thus, like Doctors of Medicine (M.D.s), Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.s) educated in the United States are fully licensed physicians and surgeons who practice the full scope of medicine. In most other parts of the world, D.O.s are not medically trained practitioners.

dwb - Question:-What is the yoga asana that looks like crow but with legs folded in lotus?
And a link to a how-to video would help also.
Yep, Urdhva Kukkutasana looks like it.
(altho I thought kakasana is crow, with legs across the triceps, and bakasana is crane with knees in the armpits)
Answer:-The "Baka" in Bakasana translates to crane (the bird, not construction device), but many do call it crow pose.
I'm guessing you likely are referring to Urdhva Kukkutasana.
Urdhva = Upward
Kukkuta = cock/rooster

If you search on youtube by "Urdhva Kukkutasana", there are several 'demo' videos, but there didn't appear to be any actual instructional videos.

Answer:-Do you mean Usana? www.usana.com - Question:-Yoga Experts: Is the fish in the fish asana supposed to look dead?
When the head is back and the belly is up, it looks a little like a dead fish floating on top of the water. Is that intentional? It doesn't really seem like a healthy pose....seems a little morbid to me!
And I already practice yoga, so no concern about that!
Answer:-You could try here for more help with that.
http://www.yogabasics.com/backbending-poses/fish.html - Question:-Is the Triangle Pose, a yoga asana or posture, easy to do? How do you do it?
Answer:-Trikonasana - the Triangle
Stretches the spine, opens the torso, improves balance and concentration.
Start with your spread 3-4 feet apart, feet parallel. Turn your left foot 90 degrees to the left and your right foot about 45 degrees inward. Inhale and raise both arms so they're parallel with the floor. Exhale, turn your head to the left and look down your left arm toward your outstretched fingers. Check that your left knee is aligned with your left ankle. Take a deep breath and stretch outward to the left, tilting the left hip down and the right hip up. When you've stretched as far as you can, pivot your arms, letting your left hand reach down and come to rest against the inside of your calf, while your right arms points straight up. Turn and look up at your right hand. Breathe deeply for several breaths. Inhale, and straighten up. Exhale, lower your arms. Put your hands on your hips and pivot on your heels, bringing your feet to face front. Repeat the posture on the other side. - Question:-In yoga health, how would you perform a Bhujanga Asana? What are its benefits? How often to practice?
Answer:-The benefits of Bhujanga Asana are numerous. It activates the whole abdominal area. The pancreas, liver and other organs of the digestive system are strengthened and normalized if there are some minor problems. It is regarded as one of the best asanas to cure constipation, indigestion, wind troubles, stomach ache and other disorders in the abdomen. It also makes the spine flexible, thus correcting backache. Menstrual problems are also corrected.
How to perform:
1.Lie on the stomach. Breathe normally.
2.Straighten the head and tilt it slightly backward.
3.Inhaling slowly, raise the head and chest upwards that you’re the navel is on the floor. In this position, both legs should be fully stretched and kept tightly together.
4.Then look up and hold your breath for six to eight seconds.
5.After the 6 or 8 seconds, start exhaling and lowering the head towards the floor and let the head rest on any cheek.
6.Now let the body relax and rest for 6 seconds.
7.After rest, repeat the process.
Daily Practice: Repeat it only four times a day. - Question:-What are the physical benefits of doing the yoga posture hal asana?
Also known as the Plow Pose
Answer:-According to Iyengar, halasana will help to relieve tightness in the shoulders and elbows. It also sends extra blood into the spine to help relieve back aches. It is cleansing for the abdominal organs and helps with gas pain. He also reccomends it for those who suffer from high blood pressure.
The Yoga Journal website says halasana is good for stimulating the abdominal organs and thyroid, for relieving symptoms of menopause, and for stretching the shoulders and spine. They also say it calms the brain and relieves stress and fatigue as well as being therapeutic for backache, headache, infertility, insomnia, and sinusitis.
This is definitely a pose best practiced under the guidance of a teacher the first couple of times you do it-- so you can be sure you're practicing it properly and avoid injury.
Namaste! - Question:-Please explain briefly how to perform a pawanmukta asana? What are its benefits if you practice it?
Answer:-These are the steps in doing a pawanmukta asana:
1.Stand up on the floor. Keep both hands hanging down and look straight.
2.Lift one knee up toward the chest.
3.Put the same side hand on the ankle and the other hand on the knee.
4.Pull the knee towards the chess without any pull on the ankle.
5.Stand firmly on the other leg, keeping quite straight.
6.Stay in that position for six to eight seconds, then release the knee and put the foot on the floor.
7.Rest for six seconds and repeat the process with the other leg.
8.Do it 6 to 8 times daily.
Those who feel unable to perform it standing up, you may do it lying on the back. The method of practice is the same. There is much flexibility in doing this asana while lying down.
This asana activates the pancreas and other organs of the abdomen and is best to correct wind trouble and acidity and gas formation and loosens the hip-joints. It also cures constipation.
