Dr. Peter Wolfe - Question:-How does LSU advance in the BCS rankings after loss to Alabama?
LSU advanced in the BCS rankings, but how? What teams were ahead of them that also lost in order for them to stay in the top 10?
Answer:-Oregon and Iowa lost. But, to stay in the top 10 when you were 9 to start is an insult to anyone with an IQ. Teams drop 5 slots or more with a loss this late.
The sec central office would have to have total control over rankings and outcomes of all games instead of just who wins in their conference. If that was true, so much for any respect they, the BCS, or officiating crews, might have had in anyones mind. - Question:-Can anyone explain how the BCS computer rankings are calculated?
When looking at the BCS rankings on yahoo, the 25 teams get a computer average. For the top 4 It shows:
#1 LSU 0.940
#2 Alabama 0.940
#3 Oklahoma State 1.000
#4 Standford 0.800
I know the computer part (1/3rd) of the BCS is an average of 6 different computer systems. But I don't have a clue where those numbers come from.
Answer:-I'm not a fan of the BCS and I think the whole system is convoluted, but I have figured out the computer systems calculation math. And it is complicated.
First of all, you can't use the Yahoo Sports BCS rankings page because it doesn't show the individual computer system rankings. The ESPN link below shows them. I'm sure there are many other sites that you could use.
As you said, there are 6 computer systems that rank the top 25 teams. However, the highest and lowest rankings are tossed out and the remaining 4 are used in the calculation.
For each of the 4 rankings used, points are awarded using a reverse scale.
Rank/ Points
1 / 25
2 / 24
3 / 23
4 / 22
5 / 21
6 / 20
7 / 19
8 / 18
etc.
down to:
25 / 1
So a team gets 4 sets of points based on the 4 rankings. They are added up, then divided by 100 to convert to a percentage. The conversion is done so the computer average is on the same numerical basis as the Coaches Poll and Harris Poll and can be averaged with those to come up with the overall BCS ranking.
The Coaches and Harris polls are done using the same reverse scale for all the rankings from individual voters a team gets. For each of those, the points are totaled up and divided by the number of voters to get the percentages. You can think of the computer system 1/3 as a poll with 4 voters.
Told you it was complicated. But some examples will clarify it better.
For this week, Oklahoma State earned these 6 computer systems rankings...
1 2 1 1 1 1 Toss the highest and lowest.. leaves us with 1 1 1 1.
So when we assign the points for each ranking, we get 25 25 25 25
added up that's 100 .. divide by 100 = 1.000
So that's the Cowboys computer ranking expressed as a percentage to be used in the overall BCS calculation. That happens to be the highest percentage possible and it makes sense because they were ranked #1 by all 4 computer systems used.
Let's do Standford's...
computer rankings.. 5 4 6 8 8 5 ... toss high/low ... 5 6 8 5 ... award points ... 21 20 18 21 .. add up.. 80 .. divide by 100 = 0.800
And Alabama's...
computer rankings.. 2 3 3 3 2 2 ... toss high/low ... 3 3 2 2 ... award points ... 23 23 24 24 .. add up.. 94 .. divide by 100 = 0.940
LSU was ranked differently by the computers but ended up with the same percentage as Alabama because when you drop the high and low the same number of points are awarded.
3 1 2 2 3 3 ... 2 2 3 3 ... 24 24 23 23 ... 94 ... 0.940 - Question:-Where can I find the Strength of Schedule for the BCS Rankings?
I was looking through the BCS rankings and did not find the strength of schedule on it. DOes anyone know where I can find that.

I have a bet on the "Final BCS Rankings".
Answer:-The BCS does not release any more rankings after the bowl games, another stupid feature that calls for a playoff! The AP does release a poll, and it can be found at this link www.appoll.com - Question:-Does your local newspaper print the BCS rankings?
The Dallas Morning News prints only the AP rankings. I honestly don't care about the AP poll and I think the newspaper is showing a bias toward its own professional organization by ignoring the BCS.
Answer:-No - Question:-Is the BCS computer rankings projections different from the Preseason rankings in college football?
For the BCS bowl rankings projection, I am just curious on the ranking difference from the BCS compared with the Preseason rankings. Would they correspond exactly by points? Or would they differ initially? My main point behind this is to wonder since after #3 Oregon lost to #4 LSU, would Oregon still have a chance to go to the BCS National Championship if they lost the home opener but win the rest of the games?
Answer:-The BCS rankings are released starting in mid October. The calculation for the rankings has 3 parts, 2 opinion polls and a computer ranking system. The polls used are the USA Today/Coaches Poll and the Harris Poll. The computer 1/3 of the BCS is an average of 6 separate computer rankings.
The USA Today/Coaches Poll releases a preseason ranking and then every week after the season starts. The first Harris Poll is released when the same day the first overall BCS rankings are published.
Most teams have played 6 or 7 games by the time the BCS rankings start so they will always differ a lot from the preseason rankings. The teams at the top of the rankings may be the same, or close to the same, depending on how they've done at that point in the season.
It's much better to be undefeated but any of the BCS conference winners with 1 loss will have a shot at getting into the BCS Championship Game. However, it's a long shot for Oregon.
Oregon is ranked 14th in this weeks Coaches Poll. That puts them behind 3 teams from the Big 12, 2 teams from the Big 10, 2 teams from the ACC, 4 teams from the SEC, and Stanford from the PAC 12.. plus Boise State.
Obviously, the only impact Oregon can have in the rankings of those teams would be beating Stanford.
It's likely that 2 or more of those teams will finish the season undefeated. If that happens, it's highly doubtful that Oregon or any team with 1 loss will be ranked #1 or #2.
And, if all the BCS conference winners have 1 loss, it's unlikely the winner of the PAC 12 will be ranked above SEC, Big 12, or Big 10 conference winners with 1 loss. That's because teams in those conferences are generally considered to have a stronger strength of schedule than Oregon.
So all that Oregon can do is focus on games week to week, beat Stanford, stay undefeated for the remaining games, win the PAC 12 and watch to see what happens with the other conferences.
Since teams in the other conferences play each other, I can see Oregon rising up in the rankings to #4 or #5. But it will be very difficult for the Ducks to get the #1 or #2 spot. - Question:-How are BCS bowls chosen? Is it based upon the BCS polls rankings and the Top 10 teams on that list?
Is it based upon the BCS polls rankings and the Top 10 teams on that list?
Answer:-Once the final BCS rankings are released -- which this year is 12/2 -- the national championship game will take the teams that finish ranked #1 and #2.
Then, the other four BCS bowls -- Rose, Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar -- select the remaining teams. However, you don't have to be in the top 10 to be selected. (For instance, a conference can send a maximum of two teams to BCS games, so if they have 3 teams in the top 10, they can't all go).
The bowls have conference tie-ins as well, so if Ohio State does not make the championship game, they will go to the Rose Bowl.

Just wondering if anyone knows
if Ohio State Loses saturday, they will lose the number 1 spot... will that be the 1st time ever that the BCS rankings has crowned 3 teams #1 in as many weeks?

Those who created the problems and were responsible for it, throw an employee under the bus. Penn State board of trustees decision is identical to the governments handling of the mortgage crisis....reward those responsible with golden parachutes and killing off those that encouraged competition and had nothing to do with the problems they created.

- Athletic Director, who is below
- University President, who is below
- Board of Trustees
Is there one supreme power?
Hypotheticlly, say a scandal came across a campus where the Board of Trustees has been embezzling money or commiting a crime, or whatever.
The campus government seems like an oligarchy right now!
BQ: Penn State is PO'd!!! Holy crap! Riots in down town! Will there be violence and riots at the game Saturday??
-
BQ2: Do you agree with the Board's unanimous decision?
BQ3: Are you listening to the press conference? It sounds like students are asking questions, and THEY ARE PISSED.
BQ4: Did you hear that student as the conference ended? He shouted out, "That's f***ing insane!"
See, I do agree with the board... The best interest of the football team must be ignored here... Young lives were permanently altered, and everything and everyone even the tinyest bit involved MUST be removed immidiately.

It showed a clip of Gloria at a news conference and she was talking about how her client had been done wrong, but Jay had super imposed a mannequin over the person.
Answer:-Sounds pretty accurate to me. Allred certainly doesn't give a sh!t about her client. - Question:-Is Gloria Allred a conservative or liberal and has her career taken a turn for the worse?
First the weepy love of Tiger Woods life, turned out to be number 11 and then the poor false id employment agency gal. She can pick em.
Answer:-Gloria Allred represented New York female firefighter Brenda Berkman who could not pass the strenuous physical test to become a firefighter but sued and won the right to be a firefighter anyway. Berkman had dragged the 150 lb test dummy by the ankles down 5 flights of stairs rather than carry it over her shoulders as the test requires. Allred claimed that by dragging the dummy Berkman was helping it, because smoke rises and the dummy would be getting better air as its head hit every stair on the test. - Question:-Why did Gloria Allred want to become a lawyer?
I'm doing a project and I need to know why she wanted to become a lawyer. Anything will be helpful. Thanks!
Answer:-I'm sure it just evolved as she progressed through her education. Try googling her and see what you come up with. - Question:-Why is Gloria Allred even involved?
I am not sure I understand why she is even involved in the Meg Whitman issue. Yes, Meg did hire an illegal alien to do work, however the maid falsified documents. Even when they where informed by the SSA they legally can not fire the maid or use that document against the maid in any way. So why is Gloria Allred even involved? If she is just doing it to interfere with an election can she be punished in some way?
Ok, maybe I should be clearer. Does Gloria Allred have any legal standing that would warrant her involvement?
Answer:-Liberals will sacrifice ANYONE to promote socialism. Liberals do not care who they must destroy. Even a poor, illegal immigrant can be used as a cannon ball. Liberals only care about themselves and the march toward socialism. Nikki is just a pawn in the liberal world and she will be discarded right after the election. - Question:-Gloria Allred has a new program "We the People" where she is a judge. Are her decisions legal?
Allred is an attorney; she is not a judge.
Are these cases staged for entertainment?
Are her decisions binding on the alleged guilty party?
Is this ethical?
Answer:-The show features actors but the cases are real. A good friend of mine got cast for the show. - Question:-Are Gloria Allred and Sarah Palin competing in a media whore competition?
If so, who do you think is winning?
Answer:-Allred won that a long time ago... - Question:-Will Gloria Allred go after the couple who employed Obama's illegal alien aunt?
No. We don't go after the people that hire illegal alien but go after Whitman and the ones who do.
Answer:-Lol no. Gloria Allred only goes after Republicans. Typical Liberal

bcs
- Question:-bcs???????????
Ok everyone hates this question about the BS BCS but now who is in it?
Sunday I believe it will be
Top 3
1. Mizzou/Kansas
2. WVU
3. Ohio State
West Virginia has a game against a good uconn team. Ohio State is done. And the winner of the kansas and Mizzou plays Oklahoma. So do you think a possible Ohio State/West Virginia game.
Answer:-It is possible to see a WVU vs OSU, but i dont think it will happen. I dont see the winner of Kansas/Mizzou losing the Big XII game to an over rated Oklahoma team. Hopefully we get a Kansas vs WVU game. I think it would be a great game to see. - Question:-How many Bowl games do non-bcs teams need to win in order to start getting a chance?
I want to see interesting match-ups, I want to cheer on the underdog.
But why doesn't the BCS want this to happen?
I think its great when Utah beats Alabama, Boise ST beats Oklahoma.
Now we have TCU demolishing ranked opponents, but they're not taken seriously at all?
The BCS seems to me to be more of a popularity contest than any real system of a teams strength.
Answer:-Non BCS teams will never get a chance in the current system. Overrated conferences like the SEC and Big 10 will always get too many teams represented in the BCS since they only play patsies outside of their own conference and then play it out umongst themselves giving the illusion that a very good record means they are deserving of a high ranking.
Example Ohio State. They did have the guts to sign a big time game out of conference, but they lost, to a sub par USC team. Played out the rest of their schedule verses small schools in Ohio and other Big 10 schools. This allowed them to build a decent record and get a BCS bowl invite by winning a BCS conference, even if it is the Big 10.
To read more, follow the link I've included below. - Question:-Why do people complain about BCS during the years when SEC teams win the national championship?
03, 06, 07, 08....Is it because the BCS national champions for those years had been beaten during the regular season while the other teams that won the BCS title went undefeated?
Answer:-That may be one of the issues but people have complained about the BCS since its inception. They don't like the idea of a computer picking the National Champion. But it's funny that a team can be SEC bound after losing 1 or even 2 games yet it's the most competitive, talented, mythically BETTER conference in the nation. There are a lot of inequities in college football, it'll never be perfect. - Question:-Is the BCS computer rankings projections different from the Preseason rankings in college football?
- Question:-What is the lowest seed a BCS conference team has gotten in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament?
My brother and I were debating this. I don't think they can get a seed lower than 13. I remember a couple of years ago Georgia won the SEC tournament and won the automatic bid and were seeded as a 13 seed. Has there ever been a BCS team that has been seeded a 14 or 15?
Answer:-Georgia's #13 was the lowest seed ever from a Major-Conference.
But, there could theoretically be lower seeds.
The conferences are each assigned RPI rankings just like teams are at the end of the regular season based on how their teams fare against other conferences.
If a Power Conference, like say the Pac-10, had a very low conference RPI, and the winner had an average record, like 16-15 or something, they could technically be a 16 seed. - Question:-What is the worst record team to mke the BCS?
My friend is saying a 500 team has made a BCS bowl game before, and I am saying they have not. Maybe a 3 or 4 loss team, but not 500. Can anyone recall who has the worst record and still made a BCS game.
Answer:-1993 Texas Tech 6-5 in the bowl alliance lost the Hancock bowl to Oklahoma 41-10
1994 Texas Tech 6-5 lost the Cotton Bowl 55-14 to Southern Cal
The BCS was formerly the Coallition then the Alliance before changing to the BCS in 1998
2005 Florida State 8-4 lost in the Orange Bowl to Penn State 26-23 in 3 OT. - Question:-Can somebody please explain the conditions of the automatic BCS bowl berth?
It seems to me that there is a rule if the conference champion does not finish in the top 16, a bowl bid is not guaranteed. Can anybody confirm this or fully explain the process? I am really hoping that the Big Least can be shut out of the BCS bowls this year and a deserving non-BCS conference team gets that bid. Is this possible?
Answer:-win - Question:-Can the BCS teams no longer rely on an easy win when they play a FCS team?
After the upset by Appalachian state, are the 1-A schools looking at their "easy wins" with just a little bit of nervousness now?
Is the fact that the BCS (1-A) teams play easy schedules and get invites to bowl games hurting 1-A ball?
Are the 1-AA teams getting better because they actually have to scrap to win their divisions and win real playoff games?
I'd love to see the UMass Minutemen beat BC later this year. As the Minutemen lost to Appalachian State in the championship game last year, that may just be a possibility.
Answer:-Well just look at Bobby Bowden of Florida State said in an interview. He basically said the top tier teams have actually stayed the same when it comes to players and getting recruits but with some many kids out there they can't take them all of offer them scholarships so they jump to another school to start instead of being a backup at his school for 2 or 3 years when they can immediately start somewhere else like in JuCo or other DIV 1A, DIV 1AA, or DIV II schools and still get s great shot at the NFL - Question:-How much is my Fossil BCS 2009 Oklahoma Championship watch worth?
I ordered a BCS Championship watch from Fossil from last years game and instead of it stating Florida is the champion, it shows Oklahoma as the champion. It was even sent in a Florida BCS Champion tin. Obviously it was sent in mistake. Fossil is begging me for the watch back, probably due to embarassment. How much would a watch like this be worth?
Answer:-Being that it never happened its worthless!

big 12
- Question:-What would happen in the Big 12 conference if Nebraska and Missouri did go to the Big 10 conference?
If Nebraska and Missouri did go to the Big 10 what 2 other schools would take their place in the Big 12. Personally I hope neither one of those schools will jump ship to another conference any time soon.
Answer:-Probably TCU and Utah, maybe New Mexico - Question:-How come the Big 12 conference top teams don't play a lick of defense?
The Big 12 top team is all offense and no defense. I mean looked at OU today, Texas score a lot of points on Mizzou but they allowed to much yardages and to many points against them. Also TTU is all offense and Texas A&M stayed close to TTU until the 4th quarter, wow al offense and no defense. Will the Big 12 top teams win the BCS title with these kind of defense? I mean no defense, it's all offense.
Answer:-Three things to consider:
-The QB's playing very well
-The defenders are missing tons of tackles (poor form and horrible pursuit angles)
-The offenses are pass happy, which prolongs the game when the clock stops on every incomplete pass... this means more possessions and plays per game - Question:-Is the Big 12 really the 5th best college football conference?
This is according SI.Com. I don't agree. They have the PAC 10, Big east and ACC ahead of the Big 12.
Excuse me, not the big east but the Big 10 ahead of the Big 12.
Answer:-Well, I"m a kansas fan and as much as i hate the fact that the BCS writers just adore the SEC...there is no way around the fact. The SEC is the best conference is college football. I would have to agree with Kirk Herbstriet though that the Big 12 is the second best. Think about it...Kansas, MIssouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech are all ranked in the top 25. Not to mention...can you think of any team that is easy to beat on the road in the big 12 aside from iowa state??? I have to believe that the big 12 is the second best conference in NCAA football - Question:-In what year will the current Big 12 teams actually leave the Big 12?
I remember that when the SWC broke up, we knew it was going to happen for a few years. How long will it be before the Big 12 teams play in their new conferences?
Answer:-more than likely before the 2011 season unless the following happen
1) teams are let out of contractual agreements to play each other
2) court injunctions - Question:-Who are the marketing partners for the Big 12 and Mountain West conferences?
For example, the Big Ten partners with Learfield and the Big East partners with ISP. I cannot find who has partnered with the Big 12 and M.W. conference. Any help is sincerely appreciated!
Answer:-I think its posted on the Big 12 web site
Good luck - Question:-What will happen if Nebraska upsets Texas in the Big 12 championship game?
Ok...I don't need anyone saying "they won't!" That is why I used the term "upset". And yes it could and has happened. The majority of the Big 12 championship games over the last few years have been upsets. I want to know what you think would happen to the bowl picture and the ranking. Where would Texas fall to and what bowl game would they go to? What about Nebraska?
I meant the majority of the Big 12 champs have gone on to be upset in their bowl game.
Answer:-If (and that's a big if) Nebraska beat Texas, then Nebraska is going to the Fiesta Bowl, and I'm sure Texas will still get a BCS Bowl invite. If Texas loses, and the SEC Championship Game between Florida and Bama is reasonably close, I think they'll re-play for the NC. - Question:-What will be the score in the Big 12 Championship? What will be the score in the Big 12 Championship? And which team do you want to win - Nebraska or Texas?
Answer:-Huskers 13-10 - Question:-Will the winner of the Big 12 be in the national championship?
With Oregan losing, will the winner of the Big 12 automaticly be in the National championship?
Answer:-The only way it won't happen is if Oklahoma State Beats Oklahoma and then Oklahoma goes on to win the Big 12. - Question:-What does the Big 12 mean in basketball?
I live in Kansas and they are always talking about the big 12. What does this mean?

Oklahoma State
Missouri
Texas A&M
Kansas
Texas
Texas Tech
Nebraska
Baylor
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Iowa State
Colorado - Question:-what is the difference between big 12 or big 10 conference in collage football?
Nebraska next year will be in the big 10. What is so great about the big 10? I know the university got millions of dollars for going to the big 10, but for football what is the benefits?
I wish we stayed in the the big 12......
At least it is looking like the huskers will crush today's game, woo hoo Shame they wont play Colorado again
