  Answer:-I bought myself a pair of Salomons last year. They're heavenly on a cold day. They're also waterproof, which comes in handy.
  
  Wellies are good for rainy days, but I wouldn't wear them to protect from the cold. That's not what they're intended for.
  
  Whatever you end up buying, please make sure that you get something with a good sole. It can be icy here and you'll want to minimize the amount of times you fall on your butt.

  Answer:-Dress in layers. I'd say if your walking around dress for warm weather. pants/ tank top. NYC always feels warmer then it is cause of the pollution and crap.

  Answer:-Having lived in both here is my view: winters are much colder in Chicago and do last longer. Be prepared for really cold weather and buy long johns. Spring and fall are the same but summer can be better in Chicago if you live downtown and don't get the humidity the burbs gets. The wind blows nicely to keep the city cooler but the burbs are humid. NYC seems humid, subways especially, but this depends on where you are.
  All said, NYC is more even. Oh and the reason it's called the windy city is because of the politics, not the wind. Chicago always seems to have more wind tunnels downtown than NYC too.

  Answer:-Intersting that you ask that. The thinking behind academics is that the markets are efficent and data will affect the stock market. But there is something called the cloudy day effect, which says that on cloudy day, markets dont perform well. There is also a hem line effect. When the fashion designers decrease the hem line of a skirt, markets typically perform well. There is also a january effect, which says that small cap stocks out perform in month of january.
  
  In short, it very well could be that the cloudy day does have an affect.

  Answer:-The weather changes here so quickly from day to day. It can be 40 and pouring (yesterday) to 60 and gorgeous (today.) The best thing to do is check weather.com before you leave, that will give you the most up-to-date forecast, as well as the upcoming 10-day forecast.

  Answer:-Weather: Spring in New York City is the best time to be in the city, without doubt. Spring usually means less humidity and temps between 50-80 degrees, though June occasionally sees a 90 degree day. An occasional humidity soaked heat wave can strike, but it usually feels nice the first time around. Spring is all about eating al fresco and enjoying the low humidity.

• Question:-Colorado Weather?
  I'm getting mixed answers about weather in Colorado Springs. I need to know what a typical year January-December is like. Are thunderstorms common? Tornadoes? What months does it snow? and how much snow can I expect? Is there much humidity? how long does summer typically last? and how hot does it get in the summers? Is there a durastic change in the day vs. night time? And any other information about moving will be helpful. (schooling, crime.ect.) Thank You!
  
  Answer:-seriously, the weather is very unpredictable. we get our first snow in about september, and then the last one in may. but then mixed in with all the snow in the winter is 70 degree days in january. in the summer (especially july) it rains daily at about 3:00 pm with thunder and lightning. it's not humid at all (people complain if it gets above 25% humidity). but yes, there is a very drastic change from day to night. even if it gets to 90 degrees during the day, it'll drop at least to 60 at night.
  some other info: not much crime. district 20, 38, and 12 schools are great! 11 and 49 are overcrowded and have some sub-standard schools and teachers. i'm not sure which part you're coming to so i can't really tell you anything about a specific school... but i've lived here for half my life so anything else you want to know just ask!

  Answer:-It depends where you are in Colorado and the type of duck. Some of the mountain towns (e.g., Aspen or Frasier) are too cold, but ducks (mostly mallards) live year round in other parts of the state (e.g., Denver or Colorado Springs).

  Answer:-If I can go from Texas to South Korea...I think you'll be fine lol. Colorado does get cold in the winter time, they are not humid ever, usually, depends on which part of Colorado you go to, the eastern portions can get a dry line that brings dew points to the 50's, but no where near the 60's and 70's you are used too. Denver is pleasant in the summer, only a few days reach 100, and it's a pleasant dry heat. If you are in the mountains, expect cool summers, 80's usually, 40's for lows. Winter's good luck anywhere in Colorado, record lows have dipped all the way down to -60 before...I've never felt that, but if you spit, it will be a ball of ice before it hits the ground.

  For anyone who has made this winter time drive (or something similar), are the weather conditions severe? Are the raods at least fit for driving?   Answer:-I made it last January, most of the drive is on the plains or in areas that don't get much snow. It shouldn't be that hard unless there's a freak storm. Just avoid I-70, as it goes right through the Rockies and closes at Vail pass all the time

That is a slight exaggeration, but it often changes abruptly especially in the summer when we have frequent rain, hail and sometimes even show in the afternoons after a morning of beautiful sunny weather.
  
  Fronts can move across the plains or down from the mountains very quickly and meteorologists always say forecasting is challenging at best. They put the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder for a reason and it wasn't the dull boring weather.

  Answer:-The climate of Colorado is quite complex compared to most of the United States. The typical south-north/cooler-warmer variation in other states is not generally applicable in Colorado. Mountains and surrounding valleys greatly affect local climate. As a general rule, with an increase in elevation come a decrease in temperature and an increase in precipitation. A main climatic division in Colorado occurs between the Rocky Mountains on the west and the plains on the east; the foothills form a transitional zone between the two.
  
  So find out more about the part of Colorado you are going to live in, and then find the climate information about that area.

  Answer:-I haven't heard anything. Guess I haven't been watching the news. Yikes! That seems pretty scary. I have never lived in California, but I remember the quake that happened in the late 80's where a bridge collapsed and there were a lot of cars trapped underneath. This was the double bridge that had collapsed.

  Answer:-No doubt the scientists were expecting a major earthquake in your state. But fortunately you were affected by a lower scale of Richter magnitude ( 5.6) I think. You will not get any thing bigger than that for about another ten years. Please watch for the fallowing situations.
  Methods for prediction of earthquakes & Tsunami
  Even though it is difficult to predict, the following methods may help.
  .
  1. Seismic gape: - The earthquake at a particular place may occur for every fixed gape of time. By knowing the past records of the quakes affected at that place may help to decide when the earthquake is next due.
  2. Planet position.: - When the stress is accumulated at the tectonic plate boundary and the same time if the position of more than 2 planets comes in a straight line this may help to accelerate the earthquakes. There fore the full moon days and new moon days are more vulnerable days for earthquakes. Some time this method fails why? Think of a sick patient. New moon and full moon days are dangerous for only sick patents. These days will not affect the healthy people. The same way if there is no accumulated stress at the tectonic plate boundaries no need to worry about the planet positions.
  3. Sun rays falling method: - If you observe the position of the sun rays falling on our wall at a particular time on all days it should form an angular infinity symbol. If there is any deviation in its path it means that there is some difference in height of the earth. That means some strain noticed at that place. Somebody claims that they can predict the place of epicenter by observing this. The laser beam measuring method of earth height from satellite also will help.
  4. MDCB:- Chinese scientist claims that they can predict up to 60 % accuracy by sensing electro magnetic rays.
  5. Cloud forming: - Few hours to a few days before the occurrence of earthquakes a cloud reader claims that he has noticed a peculiar mosaic type of formation .We may also notice some lightening in the sky.
  6. By sound :- A professor from Ajmeer University claims that he was able to hear a low frequency noise under 125 meter depth in a bore well. The same thing was reported by one Mr. Nair that he heard some roaring noise under the earth one week before the occurrence of earthquake in Gujarat.
  7. By frequency of waves :- Mr Richter Allen of Berkley University claims that he can decide the magnitude of earthquake just 4 seconds after observing the frequency of the primary wave. Present method needs the full seismographic picture to find the real magnitude that too from as many places as possible to have fairly accurate results. His claim has got some truth because when there is a slip of bigger tectonic plate the frequency of quake will be less. If a small tectonic plate slips the frequency of the waves will be more.
  8. There are several changes in nature and in the behaviors of animals and birds can be observed before an earthquake and Tsunami. The water level in well may change. Stay away from beaches if you sense earthquake waves. The Tsunami may attack long after the shaking is stopped. I wrote several articles on these subjects.

  Answer:-This was an erroneous outcome someone long ago speculated about the possibilities of events, based on the location of the San Andrea's Fault. This fault runs from Mexico to the San Francisco bay, in the state of CA and runs through the two most populated areas of the state. Because it is a feature of where the North American and Pacific tectonic plates meet, the 'falling off' thing was suggested and has even been the plot line of a few movies "Superman". Fact is, the North American plate slowly moving southward and the Pacific plate is slowly moving northward, each about 3" a year. They're not pulling apart (which a 'fall off" theory would suggest). They're ginding past each other and if anything else sub-ducting, one moving underneath (toward) each other. The movement isn't smooth but instead, continents "locking" with each other for periods of them, but as the plates beneath push in the directions indicated, the crust which is somewhat elastic. cannot withstand the pressure and "snaps" or releases (in small continuous segments less than 4 miles or so at a time) and creates an earthquake. The San Andrea's fault line is not the only falutline in the state, there are hundreds of them, though the San Andrea's is probably the most famous and gets the most attention. So will we snap off and float away, no. Will there be earthquakes and possible tsunamis? Almost nearly certain. There is 6%-59% of a strong (6.7 Scale scale or stronger) earthquake taking place on any point in CA over the next 30 years. That's pretty good. See the map. Don't freak out, you'll have lots of neighbors and pals do down with you. Peace

  Answer:-It is only a drill.Nobody has born in the world to predict the accurate occurrence of earthquake. I am the one working on finding the way to give early warning by cheap means. Even though it has proved its use in several occasions I am not yet getting proper acceptance from nodal agencies.

  Answer:-We have dozens of earthquakes every day in California, most of them not even noticeable. You can see for yourself at the United States Geological Survey's website below. If you live in California for any extended period of time, chances are pretty good you'll experience an earthquake, but noticeable ones aren't too common, and major ones even less so. (That doesn't mean you shouldn't be prepared for one, of course; seismic activity is fairly random.)
  
  Earthquakes themselves don't generally injure or kill people. Falling objects and structural failures as a result of earthquakes do. Thankfully, California has some of the strictest seismic building codes in the United States. Modern buildings are required to meet particular guidelines based on how they're made, what they're made of, and where they're located, so they are generally pretty sturdy.   Answer:-~~Sorry to argue here, but it is also available through State Farm in California too. The problem with earthquake insurance is this; it is extremely expensive. If you read all the fine print it only covers you in the event that your whole house is pretty much leveled, and that isn't going to happen here unless you have a much older home. I don't believe any contents are covered either, so call a State Farm agent and see if it is worth the expense to you.~~
