internet censorship

• Question:-Internet Censorship?
Should the internet be censored and by whom?
Is internet censorship abridging our First Amendment right?

Answer:-It's a tough legal issue because the Internet is international. The First Amendment doesn't apply everywhere.

However, some standards need to be kept. If someone is libeled or slandered on the net, then it would be difficult not to justify some sort of legal action ... and some sort of censorship to prevent it.
• Question:-Internet censorship ..?
Are u going for or against the internet censorship ..??

Answer:-Against, see the 4th admendment to US Constition.

That dosen't mean that parents cannot limit accese of minors to sexually explict content.
• Question:-What are your thoughts on an internet censorship bill?
I have firefox and noticed a tab that said "stop censorship" only to find out that congress is planning something about censorship over the internet.. Anyone care to explain if please?
  *explain IT rather

Answer:-Bill S.978 or the Commercial Felony Streaming Act is a bill that is pending introduction to the United States Senate floor. It was proposed by Amy Klobuchar, Chris Coons, and John Cornyn on May 12, 2011.[1] It is an amendment to USC 2319, Title 18, that would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted material for the purpose of "commercial advantage or personal financial gain", a felony (under current law, unauthorized streaming is only a misdemeanor). The penalty could include up to five years of prison-time. It defines illegal streaming as streaming ten or more times in a 180 day period. Furthermore, the value of the illegally streamed material would have to be greater than $2,500, or the licensing fees would have to be over $5,000.

Several articles have been published, expressing concern as to whether the bill would affect those who stream or post videos of copyrighted content (videogames, TV shows, music) on public sites such as YouTube. The bill does not directly address this aspect.[2] Although it is unknown whether the law would be enforced as such, there has been an outcry with several negative reactions against the bill on YouTube, and other websites. An example of one of these websites is DemandProgress.org, a site where over 500,000 people have signed on to oppose the bill.[3] [4]

Both Klobuchar and Coons have stated that the bill is not intended to affect the aforementioned aspects, instead it would only target websites or people who profit from illegally streaming copyrighted material.[5][6]
• Question:-How can Americans stop the internet censorship bill from passing before Christmas?
Yes its true, the lame duck congress is going to try and sneak an internet censorship on us. I am just wondering how can we prevent these criminal politicians from forcing us to abide by there authoritative demise of our legal rights. What can we do to prevent this from happening. They keep trying to strip our freedom from us, and it's sickening to me.
It's not just about copyright infringement. It's about controlling the internet!

Dropbox, like other online storage and cloud sercvices can be used for good and evil. While I don't download/upload Hollywood movies, I do upload and store on dropbox, rapidshare, and megaupload all my important files and content to be sync with multiple computers at multiple locations If the MPAA has its way and passes the Protect IP act, and destroys my online network storage systems, would there be a possibility for a class action lawsuit?

• Question:-Would Congress be threatening our 1st amendment if they pass the "PROTECT - IP" act?
Would this Act be interfering with our freedom of speech?

  Answer:-
• Question:-PROTECT IP ACT..internet censorship...? WTF?
So supposedly yahoo and google don't like it, but I find that hard to believe... or are they finally screwing these businesses? Along with the fairness act, free speech is in trouble. Your thoughts.

  Answer:-http://www.infowars.com/draconian-anti-piracy-censorship-bill-passes-senate-committee/
This act is a cover for NSA and DHS to spy on dissenting websites that support libertarianism, constitutionalism, and anti-government sentiment. Using no formal definitions or examples, some court can say that a website has infringed upon copyrighted material without any actual evidence supporting this claim. Then said website gets taken down. It's like China had babies with Nazi Germany. Welcome to the New World Order.
• Question:-Protect IP Act, made it to congress will Americans allow these goons to censor our internet?
  http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/pipa_letter/?source=fb

And then we will be no better than China, North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and etc.

Censoring information from the people is the final stage of a big, controlling, oppressive government. Censoring our internet will just lead to government regulating our libraries and the books we read.
Yes I'm aware that demand progress is a leftist website, but that doesn't mean the information here is false.

The government wants to censor our internet that's all that matters.

  Answer:-
• Question:-LGBT: What do you think of Congress attempting to "Censor" the internet?
Congress is considering two well-intentioned but deeply flawed bills, the PROTECT-IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

Answer:-Pathetic, and it actually scares me that they can even think about it. Why would they even come up with this?
• Question:-Isn't it sad when the far left/right are actually more reasonable than the Dems/GOP?
The Stop Online Piracy Act was cheered by both parties. The far left/right had something else to say about it.

What a screwed up world we live in when I agree with the extremes more than I agree with the parties who are supposedly more "moderate".

  Answer:-
• Question:-What would you do if they "censor" the internet?
Congress is considering two well-intentioned but deeply flawed bills, the PROTECT-IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

The US will be able to block a site’s web traffic, ad traffic and search traffic using the same website censorship methods used by China, Iran and Syria.

  Could this pass?
Yes. The Stop Online Piracy Act and the PROTECT IP Act have widespread support in Congress and are expected to pass.
*On November 16th, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This bill can pass. If it does, the Internet and free speech will never be the same.*

• Question:-What are some visual aids for Internet Censorship?
I am doing a speech on Internet Censorship, and I am against it. I have to have 2 visual aids, but I'm not sure what they should be. I was going to show a video about the Google issue in China, but I'm not able to show videos now because of formatting errors.... Any suggestions? It would help :) thank you.

Answer:-Maybe you could try to try downloading the video again or try it in another extension ending (like .flv, mp4, .wmv, .avi, etc.)
Or perhaps you can print out an article heading for it and print out the key facts in large, bold font. You can write on note cards the information about it, and have the Chinese flag up to show that you're talking about what happened in China.
A poster might be good, you could have a small one about the specific article about china and then potentially have another one that's larger that talks about the issue as a whole.
Or have two posters one with pros and one with the cons and visual demonstrate how there's more benefit to uncensored internet than disdavantage.
  Good luck

I have a Authentic signed baseball by the 1994 St Louis Cardinals, and I wanted to know how much someone would actually pay for it?

Answer:-Since it's not certified, you won't get a red penny for it. Most autographs are fake (95%) and everyone knows it so no one would buy something that wasn't certified and although I think most of the stuff people ask about in here is real, I think yours is fake. I don't know why, but something isn't right. Don't matter anyway, there isn't a person in the world who'd give you $20 bucks for it, let alone what a certified version of the same item is worth.
• Question:-St.Louis Cardinals?
Are the Cardinals better then you thought they would be this year? I know many people picked them to finish last in the Nl centeral and now almost a month in they are tied for first with the Cubs. Mulder is on his way back and will be back in the startin rotation soon. Can the Cards pull this divionson off if they kepp you and have Mulder and the pitchers can back healthy? And standing in the NL Centeral plz

Answer:-Nope. I picked them to win the thing all along. Check with me Sept. 1. Even if they are 7 behind then, they are still my choice. They got rid of a lot of deadwood, is all. They still have Prince Albert and a decent starting staff. LaRussa may be over rated but he's still good. No, they're about as good as I thought.

Will he ask for 30 million a year? Will he sign for less to stay in St.Louis? Can the Cardinals sign him and still have money for other players? Should be interesting.

Answer:-Sure. Who else is going to sign him? The Yankees have a 1st baseman locked up for years (Texiera). The Red Sox just locked up a 1st baseman for years (Gonzalez). The Phillies have a 1st baseman (Howard). Who else can afford him?

As for asking for $30 million per year, a person can ask for whatever he wants in a negotiation. It doesn't mean he's going to get it or anything close to it. Just ask Derek Jeter... Considering that the 2-3 biggest spenders in the market aren't in desperate need of a 1st baseman, who's going to compete with the Cardinals to drive his price up to $30 million per year?

As for asking for $30 million per year, a person can ask for whatever he wants in a negotiation. It doesn't mean he's going to get it or anything close to it. Just ask Derek Jeter... Considering that the 2-3 biggest spenders in the market aren't in desperate need of a 1st baseman, who's going to compete with the Cardinals to drive his price up to $30 million per year?
