christmas tree tax

  • Question:-is a new 0bama christmas tree tax the way to go?
    http://blog.heritage.org/2011/11/08/obama-couldnt-wait-his-new-christmas-tree-tax/
    the tree's are already taxed like all trees but is it right to charge extra tax on these trees just for the holiday session? then why not a special turkey tax for the month of november? or extra beer tax in october? etc...

    Answer:-
  • Question:-Is this Christmas tree tax thing Constitutional?
    Is it constitutional for the government to put added taxes on a token of religious worship? If it were more blatant, like a 70% tax on crucifixes, or prayer mats or something, wouldn't this be obviously unconstitutional? How is this different? Is it different? Your thoughts.
    You're absolutely right, they were the ones that wanted the fee, but that doesn't change what it is. If Muslims wanted a .15 cent tax on prayer mats in order for the government to promote prayer mats, there'd be a riot.

    Answer:-
  • Question:-Is anyone else excited about Obamas Christmas Tree tax?
    President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees. (7 CFR 1214.46(n))

  • Question:-Poll: federally imposed Christmas tree tax add?
    Do you agree with the federally added 15 cent tax add on Christmas tree sales this year as a good idea?

    Also, do you agree that fake Christmas trees should be banned (sounds like there are some people who agree with this as well)?

  • Question:-Thief in Chief, imposes 15% Christmas Tree Tax, like it?
    Next year, The Thief in Chief, has a really, really good idea, An Easter Egg Tax. Shows the insanity
    of this administration. Suppose he has a Christmas tree Czar too. Boot this commie a$$-clown and all
    his marxist buddies out, 2012.

    Answer:-
  • Question:-Since Obama is imposing a Christmas tree tax. Will he also tax prayer rugs?

    Answer:-
  • Question:-Rush broke the news that the Christmas Tree tax isn't caused by Obama. But will anyone listen?
    Listening to second hour of Rush Limbaugh today, I heard him say the tax was actually from the USDA.

    It was added after lobbying Christmas tree growers association, to help fund an add similar to the "Got Milk" ads. While Rush (as usual) was against the tax, he stressed that this wasn't Obama's doing.

    Question is does any one care? All the "blame America first"ers seems to be happy to blame this on President Obama.

    More details : http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=142188364

    The program — similar to familiar industry campaigns like "Got Milk?" "Beef: It's What's For Dinner" and "The Incredible Edible Egg" — would have been fully funded by fees on the industry at 15 cents per Christmas tree sold. The industry had asked the USDA to set up the program.

    Conservative critics said the costs could eventually be passed on to consumers. The National Christmas Tree Association said it wouldn't have an impact on the price consumers pay for their trees.

    White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said the USDA would delay the program, but defended it, saying it was not a tax.

    "I can tell you unequivocally that the Obama administration is not taxing Christmas trees," Lehrich said. "What's being talked about here is an industry group deciding to impose fees on itself to fund a promotional campaign."
    @RoadRunner

    to be fair he has already stopped it (see link posted in question).

    "the White House said Wednesday it was reversing its decision to approve an industry-sponsored Christmas tree promotion program after conservatives accused the Agriculture Department of spoiling Christmas with a new tree tax."

    Answer:-
  • Question:-Obama's Christmas tree tax, libs are blaming Bush, but Clinton was in office in 1996?
    President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

    In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)). And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

    To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees.

    Acting Administrator Shipman had the temerity to say the 15-cent mandatory Christmas tree fee “is not a tax nor does it yield revenue for the Federal government” (76 CFR 69102). The Federal government mandates that the Christmas tree sellers pay the 15-cents per tree, whether they want to or not. The Federal government directs that the revenue generated by the 15-cent fee goes to the Board appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out the Christmas tree program established by the Secretary of Agriculture. Mr. President, that’s a new 15-cent tax to pay for a Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

    Nobody is saying President Obama doesn’t have authority to impose his new Christmas Tree Tax — his Administration cites the Commodity Promotion, Research and Information Act of 1996. Just because the Obama Administration has the legal power to impose its Christmas Tree Tax doesn’t mean it should do so.

    Libs owned again. Does the stupid ever end in the DNC?

tilt

  • Question:-What is the optimum tilt angle for a solar panel in our area? What would the tilt?
    What is the optimum tilt angle for a solar panel in our area? What would the tilt
    angle be if you want to optimize your Summer or Winter energy production?

    Answer:-That's actually a more complicated question than it might seem at first.

    The simple answer for anyone above 23 degrees latitude is to tilt at latitude, so if your house is at 35 degrees latitude, you would tilt at 35 degrees.

    However, the best financial payback may be to optimize for summer (latitude + 15 in the northern hemisphere), if you have air conditioning bills that kick up your electric rates into the expensive tier. On the other hand, if you live in an area that gets very hot, the panel efficiency will go down, so it might be better to go latitude + 5 or so.

    To optimize for Winter, the simple answer is latitude - 15, but again, not so simple, if there's a chance you'll get snow on the panels.

    I have our panels set up so that I could readjust the tilt twice a year if desired, but I have never done so, yet. Too much trouble for a rooftop installation. And I'm concerned about 100 mph wind gusts picking up the panels in winter if I were to tilt them at a high angle. As far as I know, the vast majority of residential installations just follow the slope of the south-facing roof and take what they can get.

    If you're talking about water heating panels, I think the general practice is to just match the slope of the roof, and point them southwest (not south) in our area, because that's the optimum balance between the sun and the daytime temperature.
  • Question:-How to tilt / turn my lawnmower to avoid mixing gas and oil?
    I have a lawnmower and plans to clean it. The problem is I don't know the best ways to turn or tilt it to avoid mixing gas with oil. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Answer:-If you want to clean the bottom of the deck you can turn it on it's side without any problem. There is a vent on one side of the crankcase, just keep this side up and there will not be a problem. As far as oil going into the cylinder this will not be a problem. The gas will not run into the crankcase. Don't leave it on its side but to clean it it will be fine.
  • Question:-Is there a way to tilt my AC unit with a window that's clearly OLD?
    I live in an old apartment in Brooklyn (like most apartments out here). There is literally no way to tilt the unit because of the way it's designed. What can I do to give it a slight tilt so water stops coming into my room?

    Answer:-HVAC tech,: There are several ways to solve your problem. First you could get a board cut to the size of the a/c base, use some gorilla glue to attach a thin strip of wood where it will hit the inside front edge of the window sill.That will add a slight slope and the water will run outside. there are also cedar shingles that will slope it. They have a taper on them and would only need to be driven under the unit.

  • Question:-How much does Full Tilt Poker charge to play with real money?
    Does anyone know how much they charge to play with real money on full tilt poker site? Do they charge you when you transfer funds to bank? Do they take a cut from each pot? How does it work?

    Answer:-They dont charge when you transfer funds from a bank, but yes they charge a small cut from each pot, but you hardly notice. I think Full Tilt is the best online poker site going around, especially for new players because of their poker school and and their micro low limits (1cent and 2 cent blinds).
    They also have great bonuses for new players including the 100% deposit bonus for new players (deposit $50 and get $50 free! up to $600)

    When you sign up you just have to type in NAB25 into the promotion code box. I think you get an entry into a new player $1000 free roll as well

  • Question:-How does tilt and shift photography work?
    I've seen some examples of tilt and shift photography and I was wondering what other kind of results you can get from it, exactly how it works, how the tilt and shift lens works, ect...

    Answer:-Tilt and shift are lens movements that are most commonly found on large format cameras. Nikon and Canon did offer shift lenses for their 35mm equipment. And there is at least one aftermarket tilt lens.

    The basic idea is that if the lens is designed to project an image on the film plane that is significantly greater than the nominal size of the film, then it is possible to take advantage of that capability to change what the film actually sees through the lens. To do this, the lens is either shifted horizontally or vertically, or rotated about a horizontal or vertical axis (or some combination of these movements) to create the desired effect.

    By shifting the lens laterally or vertically, the field of view can changed from the normal field (which is directly 'on axis' with the lens) to something that is off the lens axis. That is, the framing of the image can be changed to shift it to one side or the other, or up or down. An example of shift is when photographing a field that includes a mirror - with the lens on-axis, the camera will see a reflection of itself in the mirror. But by shifting the lens to one side, the field of view seen by the film can be changed to exclude the image of the camera in the mirror.

    Vertical shift is also knows as rise or fall.. When photographing a building, it is often necessary to tilt the camera up to include the top of the building. This causes the image of a rectangular building to be distorted -that is, the verticals tend to converge. By raising the lens vertically, it may be possible to frame the entire height of the building without having to tilt the camera, thereby keeping the vertical lines of the building vertical in the image.

    Tilt is the capability of rotating the plane of the lens so that it is no longer parallel with the plane of the film. Normally, image planes that are not parallel with the film plane will be rendered out of focus in the image. While this can be compensated for to some degree by increasing depth of field, there is only so far that you can go with that approach. Without going into excessive detail, it is sufficient to say that this make it possible to create an image in which an image plane that is NOT parallel to the film plane will appear to be in focus in the image. The Schleimpflug Principle provides a graphical method for determining the amount of tilt (lens plane rotation about a horizontal axis) or swing (lens plane rotation about a vertical axis) is needed to make create a sharp image plane with the subject plane is not parallel with the film plane.

    When ever i try to post a bunny, it Always comes out side by side like this (\_/) (='.'=) (")("). Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it? Also any one who any ascii art pleas tell me how to make it

    Answer:-When you post, the site removes all those spaces. If you can use HTML codes, set the ASCII art between the "pre" tags:

    <pre>

    ascii art

    </pre>

    Otherwise, convert it to an image, host the image and link to it to show the graphic instead.

  • Question:-ASCII art.....?
    I'm trying to make a 13 out of all 6's in ASCII art. Can you help me? Or show me?

    Answer:-It's usually just line by line. Easiest thing I would do, open up MSPaint and type in what you want ("13") then magnify it so you can pixilate it and base your ASCII characters on that.

    If you only want to use one character, you may want to just have a space or period to outline the 13... eg:

    666..66666...6666
    66.6.6666.666.666
    6666.6666666.6666
    6666.66666666.666
    6666.6666.666.666
    666...6666...6666

    Obviously, you would need to copy and paste that into Notepad with a System or Courier font type.

  • Question:-What is the difference between ascii art and typogrophy?
    I know there is Ascii and Typography Art in which pictures/letters are made from smaller words or symbols, but I was wondering if there was any difference between the two. Can anyone help me?

    Answer:-“ASCII art” gets its name from the ASCII character set. Either ASCII or EBCDIC was used on almost every computer whereas extra characters varied widely. ASCII and EBCDIC contained almost exactly the same characters.

    On the web, originally a large number of incompatible character sets were used that only had the ASCII characters in common, which encouraged the use of only ASCII characters when creating these pieces of art as they could be viewed properly by everyone, regardless of what character set they were using.

    Now that Unicode is in common use, and the individual character sets are converted to Unicode for common use, there is not as much reason to restrict oneself to ASCII characters and many people don’t, but they still refer to ASCII art.

    “Typography art” is just an attempt to devise a more suitable name for this kind of artwork.

light field camera

  • Question:-Why does depth of field increase as you allow less light into the camera?
    Can somebody please explain, in dummies terms, why the depth of field increases with less light?...that is the smaller the aperture, the deeper the DOF. And if you close the aperture, how do you compensate for light loss? By slowing the shutter speed?

    Answer:-There are already some good bits of info above. Let me state it simply: depth of field doesn't have anything to do specifically with letting less light in. However, it DOES have to do with the size of the aperture. The smaller the hole, the greater the depth of field. You can take this all the way to using a pinhole, which will focus an image even though there is no lens at all. In effect, the tiny aperture becomes a lens.

    It so happens that the smaller the aperture, also the less light reaches the inside of the camera during a given amount of time (when compared to a larger aperture).
  • Question:-When is the electrical field of a camera flash the strongest?
    Writing a story where I can fudge the science a bit, but I wanted to get this correct. I'm using a camera flash in the story and (without getting into too much detail) need to know when the electrical field around the thing would be the strongest.

    The light charges, then expends the energy. It would seem that the field would peak when the charge was expended, but I'm not strong enough in this science to be certain; it might be most powerful when the charge is at its peak, *before* the light goes off.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your attention.

    Answer:-There are two different electric fields involved.
    One is the electrical field in the capacitor which stores energy prior to the flash. It is pumped up by a voltage multiplier circuit until it reaches the designed voltage, which is the voltage at which the capacitor stores the amount of energy needed for the flash. It stays at this high level until the flash is triggered.
    The other field is that around the conductors. It is highest at the instant of triggering and rapidly declines to near zero as the charge is in the capacitor is dissipated.
    If the flash is the type where a primary coil is normally charged and then is collapsed at triggering to generate a current in a secondary coil, then the field is high up until the point at which it is triggered. It is the collapsing field, which is always smaller than the primary field, which generates the current in the flash.
  • Question:-I am looking for a camera for use during a football game under field lights.?
    He also plays in a band (as the drummer) and I want pics of him. I am concerned about stage lights. I know nothing about cameras and need some help. Thanks so much. I do not want these events to slip by and not have great pics for memories.

    Answer:-If you need to shot in poor lighting condition, a DSLR is a must. If you don't know too much about camera, it is not easy to learn how to use a DSLR effectively.

    You may consider Canon S5 IS. It has a 12x stabilized zoom lens.

    Some photo students are freaking out saying that photographers apparetnly won't be needed no more since you can make stuff in focus and make the light right and stuff like that.

    Answer:-NO.
    It will just mean that hopefully we won't be seeing so much out of focus crap on the "what is my photogrpahy like" questions.

  • Question:-Why does increasing the F-Stop on a camera deepen the field of focus.?
    I understand that narrowing the aperture on your lens increases the depth of field, bringing objects in the background more into focus. However, I do not understand why this happens. What physical property of light or of the lens causes this effect?

    And a secondary question for anyone who knows. If not, no biggie. Does the same property apply to the human eye? Is the depth of our field of vision shallower in low light than in bright light?

    Thank You

    Answer:-As was already said the reason that focal length and aperature size affect DOF is the concept of the circle of confusion. Although we talk about DOF as if its a hard line where things on one side are in focus and things on the other are not; thats not how it works. There is an actual focus point where the lines of light converge on the film or sensor and that point is in the greatest focus. In fact its the only point where the image it truely and completely in focus. Outside that point the light rays to not converge exactly on the film of sensor. Any areas that are "acceptably sharp." are said to be inside the depth of field. The more the light has to be bent smaller the area that is acceptably sharp. The center of the lens is where the light rays have to be bent the least so the area that is acceptably sharp is longer. Now on the surface that would make you think you should always shoot at the lowers aperature for the best focus. That also is not true. It will give you the greatest DOF but not necessarily the best sharpness. This is becuase the shape of the aperature also causes light to bend ( diffraction). So the sweet spot on most lenses where they are sharpest I have always been taught is closed down 2 to 3 stops from max aperature. Its also thought aperature geometry effects this sharpness
    If you want to confuse it more there is also the concept of depth of focus/focus spread which deals with how flat a sensor or film has to be in a camera to be able to record the maximum DOF from the lens

    Here is a good explanation of DOF
    http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/digitaldof.html

    Now if that was confusing the human eye is even more so because yes there is a set focal point and yes pupil size effects this due to diffraction and abberations and there is also a circle of confusion but our brain does not always interpret it that way. It makes accomodations based on what it thinks we should be seeing. Its the same with white balance. Despite the fact that light has different temperatures we see white as white under most lighting conditions the camera needs to be adjusted for light temperature to see true white. Also muscles in the eye change the shape of the lens and eye when out thoughts change what we are looking at so when you are looking at the flower yes the things in the background are out of focus and out of the depth of field but as soon as you think about that and pay attention to it the eye refocuses on that background and you do not notice it was out of focus. We can learn to override this, thats how those pictures that looked like wierd color lines until you changed your focus then you saw an image in them worked. We notice DOF in a picture because even though things were at different distance when we looked though the lens on the print or screen they are the same distance from the eye on that output. We cannot refocus the eye to make the back of the picture come into focus the way we could when we looked at the actual scene. I hope I am not babbling and making this too confusing. When we get older the ability of the eye to change shape lessens, one way to say it is that the eye is less flexible, this is called presbyopia and its what martin is talking about. If you really want to get into it a good book on the way we see is Optics of the human eye By David A. Atchison, George Smith.
  • Question:-Are there any camera flashes with a zoom?
    Short version: I want a camera flash with a zoom.
    Long version: A regular camera flash sends light to a wide field of view, which is perfect for photography at low magnification. On the other hand, now that there are digital cameras with zooms beyond 10X, it doesn't make sense for the flash to light up the huge field of view that the camera isn't even looking at. Wouldn't it be cool to adjust the divergence (field of view) of the flash so it would work at higher magnifications and therefore longer distances? If one is available already, let me know.

    Answer:-There are indeed flashes that zoom - many of them. I don't konw if one is made for your camera or not, but find your camera at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) and they will show accessories under the camera. Sometimes they show flash units. If not, this is a good site to search anyhow.
  • Question:-Looking for a high dof macro camera most often in low light?
    Hi, I have a very specific application in which I need a high depth of field using the macro setting and most often have low light conditions. I can get some more light in the end if that is what I need but that would be inconvenient. I'd also like optical image stabilization, aperture priority and as some insurance, the ability to use a wide angle lens. I was looking at the G7 or G9 but reviews I have read of them say that the macro is no good in low light (although it is great in good lighting conditions). Also looking at the Nikon Coolpix 5000. I'm looking for something in that size range. I'd like to end up with a depth of field of about an inch at a range of around 2-4cms. Thanks

    Answer:-I believe you need a (d)SLR with a serious lens. Eventually a special macro lens (like these here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=155). DOF becomes lower with bigger aperture and with magnification of image. Since you have low light you might need big aperture which will lower the DOF. A higher ISO setting might help. If you need to work macro (say 1:1, which means image size on senzor equals real image size), again you will loose DOF.
    dSLRs have bigger sensors than compact cameras and usually give usable image quality also with higher ISO --> so you may use narrower aperture and thus longer DOF. But I am afraid your question has no stright answer, at least I do not know it.
    There is also an Adobe PS technique to make more photos, each focused on different distance, then combine them in one image with big DOF. I saw details in a recent Outdoor Photography, I believe. But you need a static subject. Also, if your subject is static put the camera on tripod, use smallest aperture you have (you might need long exposure time) and shoot.
    Good luck!

  • Question:-Ran red light in Massachusetts/NH border, camera flashed, question?
    Hi, I just moved up to Massachusetts and live in a town on the border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Today, as I was returning from shopping, I was coming up to an intersection when a car came out of left field and got in front of me. He proceeded to go slowly through the light which had turned green then yellow immediately. It was still yellow when I was going through it; after I had already passed the white barrier line, it went to red and the camera flashed. If this helps, I believe it was at the southern border of NH in Plaistow, NH that turns into Haverhill, MA (believe it is called RT. 108). My questions are: does Massachusetts have red light cameras that ticket people and if so, would this warrant me getting a ticket? Also, because I am out of state and don't have a license plate on the front of my car such as people do up here, could I get one anyway?
    Finally, please no criticisms. We all run red lights sometimes and I am not a crazy driver.

    Answer:-I've never seen a red light or speeding camera in NH or MA.

    What is common, particularly in NH is a strobe light in the red light to get the drivers attention that light is red. These don't take a picture - just there to be sure you notice the red light.

    Answer:-I have an SB-800 flash unit for my Nikon D200. The computer in the flash communicates with the computer in the camera which inturn talks to the computer in the lens.and adjusts for the lens I'm using.

    I also have an SB-16B for my 35mm. It while not as sophisticated, it does have a zoom function on the flash head that I can adjust for ultra wide angle, wide angle, normal, meduim telephoto, and telephoto.

    You need to get a flash unit made by the camera maker. They match their units so they can communicate various bits of information.

    Although you can find some older flash units, like my SB-16B that have a manual adjustment.
  • Question:-Good camera high school sports in low light.?
    Requirements ...

    1. Sports in low light (high school football field with mediocre lights at night, high school gym with mediocre lights.)
    2. I also want it to be a well rounded camera for portraits, landscape, etc

    $1500-$2000ish for body is bearable. I like the price of the Nikon D90. :) ... but don't know if it will handle the above lighting situation.

    Just interested in body right now ... glass is a whole 'nother deal.

    Answer:-The D90 is an excellent choice as it brings you near-D300 quality at a lower price. The low-light, high-ISO performance is outstanding, and that's what you'd need under the two scenarios you've described.

    Currently, I use a D200 for basketball and football, and find myself wishing I could push beyond the self-imposed 1600 ISO ceiling. Anything above that, and the digital noise is really a problem.

    On the D90, that problem is history and I'd be able to shoot at ISO 3200 or higher with even better results.

    Here's some samples I found on Flickr.com of D90 basketball photos.
    http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=basketball&s=int&cm=nikon%2Fd90&z=t

    And here's a photographer who's gotten some great nighttime high school football shots with his D90.

favicon.ico

  • Question:-favicon.ico?
    i tried adding a favicon into my html code on my webpage but it does not appear in my address bar. my site is www.oneplusoneph.org and the following is my html code:
    <head>
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
    </head>

    thanks in advance for your help.
    sorry. i forgot to add that my favicon.ico is saved into my root folder.

    Answer:-It works for me. Try refrshing your browser or clearing your history
  • Question:-How do you use a favicon.ico image with a perl script site?
    How do you use a favicon.ico image with a perl script site? Most of my site is run off a perl script. I uploaded the favicon.ico image to my server. It will show up on a regular html page, but it won't show up on my perl script pages. Can someone help me?

    Answer:-First, make sure the favicon.ico file is in the same directory as your page/script. Then, add the following line code to the region between the <head> and </head> tags:

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

    If you're using Perl (with the CGI library), you'd have to do something like this:

    #!/usr/local/bin/perl -w
    use CGI;
    $q = new CGI;
    print $q->header;

    print $q->start_html(-title => 'Test Page',
    -head => $q->Link({-rel => 'shortcut icon',
    -href => 'favicon.ico',
    -type => 'image/x-icon'}));

    print $q->h1('Test Page') . $q->end_html;
  • Question:-trying to create favicon.ico file but get red x when I preview the file in Internet Explorer?
    I'm using Windows Vista. I created a .bmp and also a .png file 16x16 then in explorer renamed them from .bmp / .png to .ico. After renaming when I preview them in Internet Explorer I get a red X. Any suggestions?

    Answer:-You can't just rename file types - a png is not a bmp is not an ico. They're all picture files, but they're all different formats. You have to name the file what it is. (And you have to tell IE where it is - if you give it the wrong location, you get the red X.)
  • Question:-How to put a favicon.ico on your site when you already have the favicon.ico made with a special program?
    Well i just started my first website, and id like to add a favicon.ico to my site. i already have an icon, i made it with a special program, but how can i use it

    Answer:-I think I can help.

    First, do you have your image as a .ico file?
    (Icon extension)?
    Similar to:
    myicon.ico?

    If you do, upload it to your website, or a image hosting site, and add this segment of code into the top of your website, between your header tags. (<head>, </head>)

    <link href="images/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" />

    I believe that is what you are looking for.

    Instead of a program, you can try:
    http://www.favicon.cc/

    I always use this site whenever I need to create a favicon.
    Plus, you can upload an image, and it will create a favicon for you.
    Best of all, it is completely free!
    (Sweet!)

    Hope that help!

  • Question:-How do you upload a favicon.ico onto your site when your host is Weebly?
    A favicon.ico is that little picture by the address bar.

    Answer:-Paste the HTML code at the top of your main page. If you need to create the code visit a site like this.

    http://www.favicon.co.uk/

    Cheers
  • Question:-What is favicon.ico? it is showing up in the errorlog of my website?
    I was checking my website stats and I went into the error log and and it showed 404 type error several times and the file that was missing was favicon.ico, but I don't have a link to such file and never heard of it, what is it?

    Answer:-Favicon.ico is the standard place for the icon that's shown next to the website's address (and in tabs on Firefox). For Yahoo! Answeres it's a green wordbubble with an asterisk in it.

    Browsers will automatically try to fetch this while loading your site. If, as it sounds, you don't have one your browser will return a 404 or Not Found error to the browser. This isn't really a problem persay, the errors can be ignored.

    If you want to prevent this error, the easiest way is to create a small icon or image and upload it as Favicon.ico onto your server.
  • Question:-I have "favicon.ico" set up nicely, how do you get the bigger "secure page" icons to show?
    I am creating a website, i can set up the html to show the "favicons.ico" etc icon, but how do you go about getting the flashy long ones that i assume are for "safe" pages.... do you need an ssl certificate? or something else? and if you do, does it cost???

    Thanks... top answer for a good answer :D

    Answer:-You need to buy an SSL cerificate, install it on your server, then call your page using httpS instead of http.
    Not very useful, and expensive (each certificate is annually renewable). Unless you make financial transactions, it is pretty much useless.
    Even using payment gateways, you can avoid to use an SSL connection. Just make sure you leave the inputs of credit card details and confidentail infos to the payment gateway. NEVER ask these details on your own, unsecured server.

  • Question:-favicon.ico question--My icon doesnt display when i use www before my page, is there any way to fix this?
    i use godaddy hosting.

    trying to get my icon displayed on navigator bar and on bookmarks

    check it out--

    h ttp://mysite.com OK! icon works!
    www.mysite.com NOT OK! icon doesnt work!
    h ttp://www.mysite.com NOT OK! icon doesnt work!

    is there any way to get my icon to show up for these two ways?

    i am saving my icon as favicon.ico in my root--ftp://mysite.com/

    thanks

    Answer:-I'd suggest using a standard PNG image with 16x16 dimensions as your favicon instead.

    This can be done by putting the following code in the <head> tags.

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.png">

    Of course you may be able to also use that code to adjust your icon problem. My suggestion is to use the <link> tag as shown and make sure you put the source of the icon as the full URL (h ttp://www.mysite.com/favicon.ico - or whatever you want it to be).
