jim thome

  • Question:-Jim Thome........?
who would have thought Jim Thome would be as awsome as he has been. getting every hit in the clutch when he needs to. 14 HR. batting .307. obp .466.

who needs Frank Thomas. 6 hr. batting .188. obp .282

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:-I'm a long time White Sox fan so I'll never be completely down on Frank Thomas, yes he was a pouting brat sometimes, but he carried the White Sox through some lean times. Once upon a time Frank was on a very elite career trajectory, legends of the game type numbers.
Never was a fan of Thome back in the day, but what can I say, I hate all Cleveland Indians. He's basically a good local guy(downstate Illinois?) with a killer bat when he's in shape and healthy. He's exceeded my expectations, and I hope he keeps it up.
Incidentally, as first basemen they both make great DH's.

-All that being said, Thome is my screen saver at work.
  • Question:-How many more years will Jim Thome play?
I'm a Jim Thome fan, and noticed the White Sox have a $13M option for 2009.

Answer:-One of my friends hunts with Jim out in Canton Ill. He asked him that question. He said he feels great and will play as long as he can. So I think he is planning on signing another contract when this one is up in 09.
  • Question:-Is Jim Thome a switch hitter or just a left handed hitter?
I was really curious because i wanted to know is Jim Thome a switch hitter or does he just bat left handed?

    Answer:-He's just a lefty.
  • Question:-What did Jim Thome do to get suspended?
I love the White Sox, but i live far from Chicago, so I don't get to see every game. Now, I hear that DH Jim Thome has been suspened? What the fudge? He's the nicest guy on the team. What did he do to get fined and suspended?

Answer:-He got suspended 1 game for arguing balls and strikes.
I wouldn't worry about it. He is hitting .156 this year anyways and probably needs a day off.
  • Question:-Congratulations Jim Thome! Did you just cement your place in the Hall of Fame?
Against the Rays, Jim Thome has already hit two home runs. The first one tied Harmon Killebrew for 10th on the all-time list and the second supplanted him. Killebrew is a Hall of Famer. Will Thome join him there?

Answer:-Yes. I suppose. I like Jim Thome, but here is one of those -- sure, he hit the milestone, but is he REALLY a Hall of Famer?
Yeah, put him in. But get Ron Santo and Tommy John in there, too.
  • Question:-Jim Thome to finish his career with Indians?
Now that Travis Hafner is back on Disabled List again, Could we see the Cleveland Indians bring back Jim Thome?

Answer:-I would love to see that happen. The Indians could use him and Thome has said he'd like to return to Cleveland.
  • Question:-Trivia: What is the only team Jim Thome has not hit a home run against?
Best answer goes to first correct answer!
The Expos and Nationals are both one team together. Sorry about that.

Answer:-Washington Nationals - although he did hit 9 against the Montreal Expos - before they moved to Washington.

EDIT: In that case - the Philadelphia Phillies
    ..
  • Question:-Does Jim Thome have the best center field power in the past 50 years?
Where would you say he ranks on the all time list for center field power? It seems like he's hit a lot of deep shots to straightaway.

Answer:-I would say he does, but I do not have knowledge of historical players. It is only safe for me to say that he has great center field power. He hit a ball 480 feet while on the White Sox, going up to the center field fan deck at US Cellular Field. His second best spot is left-center field for opposite power.
  • Question:-Will Jim thome start doing really good the rest of the season?
i just dont no if he'll continue to hit a lot of home runs and drive in runs since his injury. should i trade him for som 1 else?

Answer:-Thome as long as he is healthy is a great fantasy player. The Health is the issue.
  • Question:-How many home runs has Jim Thome hit against the MN Twins over his career?
He has hit 23 home runs WITH the Twins, but wondering how many of his (currently) 587 were AGAINST the Twins. If someone could please provide a source if they have the answer, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:-He has hit 57 against the Twins.
In the 2nd column, it says 30 OPP. And those are the teams and the number of home runs he has hit against them.

tilt

  • Question:-What is the optimum tilt angle for a solar panel in our area? What would the tilt?
What is the optimum tilt angle for a solar panel in our area? What would the tilt
angle be if you want to optimize your Summer or Winter energy production?

Answer:-That's actually a more complicated question than it might seem at first.

The simple answer for anyone above 23 degrees latitude is to tilt at latitude, so if your house is at 35 degrees latitude, you would tilt at 35 degrees.

However, the best financial payback may be to optimize for summer (latitude + 15 in the northern hemisphere), if you have air conditioning bills that kick up your electric rates into the expensive tier. On the other hand, if you live in an area that gets very hot, the panel efficiency will go down, so it might be better to go latitude + 5 or so.

To optimize for Winter, the simple answer is latitude - 15, but again, not so simple, if there's a chance you'll get snow on the panels.

I have our panels set up so that I could readjust the tilt twice a year if desired, but I have never done so, yet. Too much trouble for a rooftop installation. And I'm concerned about 100 mph wind gusts picking up the panels in winter if I were to tilt them at a high angle. As far as I know, the vast majority of residential installations just follow the slope of the south-facing roof and take what they can get.

If you're talking about water heating panels, I think the general practice is to just match the slope of the roof, and point them southwest (not south) in our area, because that's the optimum balance between the sun and the daytime temperature.
  • Question:-How to tilt / turn my lawnmower to avoid mixing gas and oil?
I have a lawnmower and plans to clean it. The problem is I don't know the best ways to turn or tilt it to avoid mixing gas with oil. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:-If you want to clean the bottom of the deck you can turn it on it's side without any problem. There is a vent on one side of the crankcase, just keep this side up and there will not be a problem. As far as oil going into the cylinder this will not be a problem. The gas will not run into the crankcase. Don't leave it on its side but to clean it it will be fine.
  • Question:-Is there a way to tilt my AC unit with a window that's clearly OLD?
I live in an old apartment in Brooklyn (like most apartments out here). There is literally no way to tilt the unit because of the way it's designed. What can I do to give it a slight tilt so water stops coming into my room?

Answer:-HVAC tech,: There are several ways to solve your problem. First you could get a board cut to the size of the a/c base, use some gorilla glue to attach a thin strip of wood where it will hit the inside front edge of the window sill. That will add a slight slope and the water will run outside. there are also cedar shingles that will slope it. They have a taper on them and would only need to be driven under the unit.
  • Question:-What is the tilt response of a pyranometer?
One of the specifications of a pyranometer is its tilt response. What does the value indicate?

Answer:-http://solardat.uoregon.edu/LICORPyranometer.html This site should have all of the information you need to answer your question.
  • Question:-What does the tilt of the earth have to do with leaves changing?
What does the tilt of the earth have to do with leaves changing?

Answer:-It is not becuase the world tilts that the leaves change, it is because the tilting ot the world brings on cooler climits and the coller climit is what cause the leave to change.

  • Question:-How much does Full Tilt Poker charge to play with real money?
Does anyone know how much they charge to play with real money on full tilt poker site? Do they charge you when you transfer funds to bank? Do they take a cut from each pot? How does it work?

Answer:-They dont charge when you transfer funds from a bank, but yes they charge a small cut from each pot, but you hardly notice. I think Full Tilt is the best online poker site going around, especially for new players because of their poker school and and their micro low limits (1cent and 2 cent blinds).
They also have great bonuses for new players including the 100% deposit bonus for new players (deposit $50 and get $50 free! up to $600)

When you sign up you just have to type in NAB25 into the promotion code box. I think you get an entry into a new player $1000 free roll as well
  • Question:-How to stretch a tilt jump in dance?
By the end of the year, I have a goal to perfect (well not perfect, but close to it) a pretty tilt jump. Does anyone have any advice on certain stretches that will help make my tilt jump wider? Also, any advice for doing a regular tilt on the ground so it looks its best? Thanks!

Answer:-Did you try looking it up?
I think pelvic stretches and core stretches. Your hamstrings as well becuase with most jumps I feel those muscles being pulled on.

There are some youtube vids as well I think
  • Question:-How does tilt and shift photography work?
I've seen some examples of tilt and shift photography and I was wondering what other kind of results you can get from it, exactly how it works, how the tilt and shift lens works, ect...

Answer:-Tilt and shift are lens movements that are most commonly found on large format cameras. Nikon and Canon did offer shift lenses for their 35mm equipment. And there is at least one aftermarket tilt lens.

The basic idea is that if the lens is designed to project an image on the film plane that is significantly greater than the nominal size of the film, then it is possible to take advantage of that capability to change what the film actually sees through the lens. To do this, the lens is either shifted horizontally or vertically, or rotated about a horizontal or vertical axis (or some combination of these movements) to create the desired effect.

By shifting the lens laterally or vertically, the field of view can changed from the normal field (which is directly 'on axis' with the lens) to something that is off the lens axis. That is, the framing of the image can be changed to shift it to one side or the other, or up or down. An example of shift is when photographing a field that includes a mirror - with the lens on-axis, the camera will see a reflection of itself in the mirror. But by shifting the lens to one side, the field of view seen by the film can be changed to exclude the image of the camera in the mirror.

Vertical shift is also knows as rise or fall.. When photographing a building, it is often necessary to tilt the camera up to include the top of the building. This causes the image of a rectangular building to be distorted -that is, the verticals tend to converge. By raising the lens vertically, it may be possible to frame the entire height of the building without having to tilt the camera, thereby keeping the vertical lines of the building vertical in the image.

Tilt is the capability of rotating the plane of the lens so that it is no longer parallel with the plane of the film. Normally, image planes that are not parallel with the film plane will be rendered out of focus in the image. While this can be compensated for to some degree by increasing depth of field, there is only so far that you can go with that approach. Without going into excessive detail, it is sufficient to say that this make it possible to create an image in which an image plane that is NOT parallel to the film plane will appear to be in focus in the image. The Schleimpflug Principle provides a graphical method for determining the amount of tilt (lens plane rotation about a horizontal axis) or swing (lens plane rotation about a vertical axis) is needed to make create a sharp image plane with the subject plane is not parallel with the film plane.

blaine gabbert

  • Question:-how many times did Blaine Gabbert scramble in 2010 out of his 112 rush attempts?
i would like to know if anyone can find this football stat. How many times in 2010 did Blaine Gabbert scramble (scramble meaning run during designed pass plays) out of the 112 rush attempts?

Answer:-well that is an impossible statistic to discover because it is technically impossible to know if a play was an intended pass or rush. there are intended scrambles in the NCAA after all. Either way he plays in a mostly pro style offense so I'd assume 70% were not intended
  • Question:-Should I start Jason Campbell or Blaine Gabbert?
2 QB league, My 3 QBs are Tarvaris Jackson, Jason Campbell and Blaine Gabbert

I know they suck, but I missed the draft and I'm stuck with them. Anyway I'm starting Tarvaris since he plays arizona, but should I start Campbell against the Jets or Gabbert against the Panthers?
Trust me I'm always all over the waivers but since it's a 2 qb league it's hard, luckily the rest of my team is solid.

Answer:-Sounds like you need to take a chance. I would give Gabbert a shot, Campbell may not even last the entire game.
  • Question:-Why is Blaine Gabbert one of the top prospects in the 2011 NFL Draft?
I'm a little unsure about this pick from Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. Gabbert had good stats, but they weren't amazing. He plays against suspect defenses in the Big 12. Also, Gabbert plays in the typical system spread offense at Mizzou. How do you think he will do in the NFL?

Answer:-He is about the only QB that is worth a crap. RT
  • Question:-Kevin Kolb, Philadelphia Eagles VS Blaine Gabbert Missouri, Tigers?
I am a AZ Cardinals fan and would like to see which option people think would be better for the Cardinals this upcoming season. Draft Blaine Gabbert, assuming he is still available or trade for Keven Kolb?

Answer:-Gabbert's got several problems to work out. Kolb isn't available since he'll be starting for the Eagles.
    _________
    Tyler Cross -
    LMAO!
Vick was exposed in his last three games. On February 25 Vick will be given a transition tag, signed by the Eagles, then traded for a first round pick. There's NO way the Eagles are going to pay Vick in the $19,000,000 range on a franchise tag.
Sorry to break THAT to you.
    A top five QB? LOL!
  • Question:-Is Blaine Gabbert worthy of being the first QB drafted?
What are some of his pros and cons? What team do you think will take him?

Answer:-No he will be a backup QB at best in the NFL. A system Qb in a spread offense and he can only throw 16 tds to 9 ints? Sounds like a bust to me. Seriously, idk why scouts are so high on him all of a sudden.
  • Question:-Do you think Blaine Gabbert will be a star QB?
After a year or two being mentored, I think he has a great chance.

BQ: What team wins the AFC South?

Answer:-Not in the situation he's in now. Maybe one day he could be Top 10, but I don't see much more than that.

    BQ: Colts.

  • Question:-Nadamukong Suh vs Blaine Gabbert. Who would win in a fight?
Nebraska's Suh vs Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert. Who would win in a fight? And how would they win the fight?

Answer:-Suh won the fight already. the only way Gabbert has a shot is with a gun. Suh kicked that little boy all over the field.
  • Question:-Will the Buffalo Bills draft either Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert?
If not who do you see them drafting third overall?

Answer:-I am a very BIG Buffalo Bills fan, and as a fan I just wanna say that that would be stupid on Buffalo's part to get Gabbert or Newton that high. We have so many more important needs and Fitzpatrick played extremely well. It just didn't show because our defense was horrible especially when it came to stopping the run. We gave up 200 yards rushing in eight games this season, and raked dead last in the NFL for rush defense. Sure we ranked in the top ten maybe even in the top five when it came to pass defense but, that's only because teams were running the ball on us 70-80% of the time, teams were able to be one dimensional against us and still dominate or defense. We hardly got any picks and our ball hawk Byrd got one pick the entire season and that was the very last game of the season. Our pass defense is kinda over rated. So if it was up to me...I would 1 of these 3 things.

    1. Draft Marcell Dareus, Defensive Lineman, #57 Alabama. He can pass rush and get in the back field to stop the run. He could play the 4-3 or the 3-4 and since Chan Gailey said we would be playing both schemes, we need a guy who can do both. He's big, fast, and physical; and we need that on our team.

2.Draft Patrick Peterson, Conerback, #7 LSU. He is a pure vision of a shut down corner. He would fill in for Terrence who has missed 12 games in the past two seasons due to injury so you can't really trust him. He would shut down one side of the field so that we could put more in the box to stop the run as well. He is 6'1, 222 pounds. Has a safety body frame and corner like abilities meaning he is strong and physical. Has great ball skills, everything you could ask in a corner. He's already been compared to Revis due to his play on the field. Plus with all the receivers in our division we need some one who can go heads up with them. Also making it a situation where you need to pick your poison for opposing teams. Do want to pass it to Byrd's side of the field or Peterson's side.

    3. Trade Down. We have so many holes to fill and not enough picks to fill them. Buffalo should trade down and get some more picks and get some players that can ball and hard working.
  • Question:-Do you think Blaine Gabbert will have good professional career?

    Answer:-yes, i do.

ucla football

  • Question:-UCLA Football?
Who thinks that UCLA Football should be in the top 25?

Answer:-I believe they should. I donno I really think the BCS is messed up. Granted they lost to Utes, when they were ranked #11, but look at Texas and all the other teams that got beaten by unranked teams. They were all ranked higher than UCLA and should drop out too if they dropped UCLA out of the Top 25 because of one loss to an unranked team.

UCLA should at least be #25.
  • Question:-How can I watch UCLA football games on the internet for free?
I am too poor to pay for cable TV and we are big UCLA football fans. Is there a way to watch the football games online that I'm not aware of? I found online sports channels, but I doubt if they will air the UCLA games. Is there some kind of sports peer to peer network or something like that? Or maybe some kind of sports download site or something? Help pleeeese!!

    Answer:-You can try www.channelsurfing.net
  • Question:-Does anyone know the song the UCLA Football Team plays while coming out the tunnel at a home game?
Was recently at a UCLA football game at the RoseBowl and was wondering what is the music they play while the team is coming out of the tunnel.

Answer:-"Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" by Boy George and Culture Club. Hope this helps. dude. You are a dude, right?
  • Question:-what should i do since a UCLA football player asked to "lick whipped cream off my legs"?
im an incoming freshmen at UCLA and this random football player invited me to his frat party where people can only wear 2 articles of clothing.... wtf should I do? This guy is really hot, but I've never been to a party before.

Answer:-Come to my party. You have to wear nothing though,... and bring in at least 2 bottle of liquor.. :)
me and you can have more fun than that football player
  • Question:-At UCLA football games are they very strict on the age 18 to get on field limit?
I bought sideline passes for me and my son who are huge UCLA football fans. I need to know, hes 15 but hes 6'2 205 pounds so hes a big boy and could pass for being older we both have real passes that I purchases so its not like im trying to sneak him on the field with one pass for me. Has anyone ever had the expierence of them bouncing someone who looks 18 but really isnt?

Answer:-No They will let him in. They have little kids in there1

  • Question:-UCLA football?
Will the bruins gain their glory back for 2006?

Answer:-UCLA still has a football program?
  • Question:-How can I watch UCLA football online?
I'm a soldier stationed in Germany, and I'm a big BRUIN fan. Does anyone know how I can watch UCLA football online this 2010 season, I don't think I can miss another season.

    Answer:-Go to http://football.sports-tv-stations.com
    Watch football games online.
More than 1 million users are already enjoying the incredible variety.
  • Question:-What section does the UCLA Bruins give away football fans for the home games at the rose bowl stadium?
I am planning on attending the Oregon Ducks vs UCLA Bruins football game on October 11th. I want to sit in the Oregon section if they are good seats. Does anybody know what section they give to away football programs?

    Answer:-D11
  • Question:-What is the song that plays when the UCLA Bruins come onto the football field?
When the UCLA Bruins football team appears on the field in the beginning of the game and after halftime, there is a song that is played for a short time while they are running onto the field. I recognize the music but I can't remember the song or artist. I'm not talking about the UCLA school songs. It is a rock song.

    Answer:-Bruin Fanfare
  • Question:-Who are the current candidates for the UCLA football head coach position?
My head is spinning from all these new reports. Its difficult to discern which are rumors and which are facts.

    Who's got the real scoop?!
Oh man, who let the trojie in?

Answer:-Well, the rumors are all over the map.

John Harbaugh, an Eagles assist has some merit.

Personally, I think Norm Chow is a compelling fit. That would seem to give him an opportunity to make more money, and a minority hiring would be favorably received.

He's the obvious choice for trying to derail Pete Carroll and USC...

light field camera

  • Question:-Why does depth of field increase as you allow less light into the camera?
Can somebody please explain, in dummies terms, why the depth of field increases with less light?...that is the smaller the aperture, the deeper the DOF. And if you close the aperture, how do you compensate for light loss? By slowing the shutter speed?

Answer:-There are already some good bits of info above. Let me state it simply: depth of field doesn't have anything to do specifically with letting less light in. However, it DOES have to do with the size of the aperture. The smaller the hole, the greater the depth of field. You can take this all the way to using a pinhole, which will focus an image even though there is no lens at all. In effect, the tiny aperture becomes a lens.

It so happens that the smaller the aperture, also the less light reaches the inside of the camera during a given amount of time (when compared to a larger aperture).
  • Question:-When is the electrical field of a camera flash the strongest?
Writing a story where I can fudge the science a bit, but I wanted to get this correct. I'm using a camera flash in the story and (without getting into too much detail) need to know when the electrical field around the thing would be the strongest.

The light charges, then expends the energy. It would seem that the field would peak when the charge was expended, but I'm not strong enough in this science to be certain; it might be most powerful when the charge is at its peak, *before* the light goes off.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your attention.

Answer:-There are two different electric fields involved.
One is the electrical field in the capacitor which stores energy prior to the flash. It is pumped up by a voltage multiplier circuit until it reaches the designed voltage, which is the voltage at which the capacitor stores the amount of energy needed for the flash. It stays at this high level until the flash is triggered.
The other field is that around the conductors. It is highest at the instant of triggering and rapidly declines to near zero as the charge is in the capacitor is dissipated.
If the flash is the type where a primary coil is normally charged and then is collapsed at triggering to generate a current in a secondary coil, then the field is high up until the point at which it is triggered. It is the collapsing field, which is always smaller than the primary field, which generates the current in the flash.
  • Question:-I am looking for a camera for use during a football game under field lights.?
He also plays in a band (as the drummer) and I want pics of him. I am concerned about stage lights. I know nothing about cameras and need some help. Thanks so much. I do not want these events to slip by and not have great pics for memories.

Answer:-If you need to shot in poor lighting condition, a DSLR is a must. If you don't know too much about camera, it is not easy to learn how to use a DSLR effectively.

You may consider Canon S5 IS. It has a 12x stabilized zoom lens.
  • Question:-How much do you think this new " living picture camera " will change photography significantly ?
    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/168515/20110623/lytro-camera-no-focus-living-pictures-light-fields.htm

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/230966/5_coolest_lytro_light_field_camera_features.html

Some photo students are freaking out saying that photographers apparetnly won't be needed no more since you can make stuff in focus and make the light right and stuff like that.

    Answer:-NO.
It will just mean that hopefully we won't be seeing so much out of focus crap on the "what is my photogrpahy like" questions.

It will not help with composition, it will not help with wb, it will not help with subject matter or any number of other things which go towards making a good photograph

Photography is more than just getting the subject in focus.
  • Question:-Why does increasing the F-Stop on a camera deepen the field of focus.?
I understand that narrowing the aperture on your lens increases the depth of field, bringing objects in the background more into focus. However, I do not understand why this happens. What physical property of light or of the lens causes this effect?

And a secondary question for anyone who knows. If not, no biggie. Does the same property apply to the human eye? Is the depth of our field of vision shallower in low light than in bright light?

    Thank You

Answer:-As was already said the reason that focal length and aperature size affect DOF is the concept of the circle of confusion. Although we talk about DOF as if its a hard line where things on one side are in focus and things on the other are not; thats not how it works. There is an actual focus point where the lines of light converge on the film or sensor and that point is in the greatest focus. In fact its the only point where the image it truely and completely in focus. Outside that point the light rays to not converge exactly on the film of sensor. Any areas that are "acceptably sharp." are said to be inside the depth of field. The more the light has to be bent smaller the area that is acceptably sharp. The center of the lens is where the light rays have to be bent the least so the area that is acceptably sharp is longer. Now on the surface that would make you think you should always shoot at the lowers aperature for the best focus. That also is not true. It will give you the greatest DOF but not necessarily the best sharpness. This is becuase the shape of the aperature also causes light to bend ( diffraction). So the sweet spot on most lenses where they are sharpest I have always been taught is closed down 2 to 3 stops from max aperature. Its also thought aperature geometry effects this sharpness
If you want to confuse it more there is also the concept of depth of focus/focus spread which deals with how flat a sensor or film has to be in a camera to be able to record the maximum DOF from the lens

Here is a good explanation of DOF
    http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/digitaldof.html

Now if that was confusing the human eye is even more so because yes there is a set focal point and yes pupil size effects this due to diffraction and abberations and there is also a circle of confusion but our brain does not always interpret it that way. It makes accomodations based on what it thinks we should be seeing. Its the same with white balance. Despite the fact that light has different temperatures we see white as white under most lighting conditions the camera needs to be adjusted for light temperature to see true white. Also muscles in the eye change the shape of the lens and eye when out thoughts change what we are looking at so when you are looking at the flower yes the things in the background are out of focus and out of the depth of field but as soon as you think about that and pay attention to it the eye refocuses on that background and you do not notice it was out of focus. We can learn to override this, thats how those pictures that looked like wierd color lines until you changed your focus then you saw an image in them worked. We notice DOF in a picture because even though things were at different distance when we looked though the lens on the print or screen they are the same distance from the eye on that output. We cannot refocus the eye to make the back of the picture come into focus the way we could when we looked at the actual scene. I hope I am not babbling and making this too confusing. When we get older the ability of the eye to change shape lessens, one way to say it is that the eye is less flexible, this is called presbyopia and its what martin is talking about. If you really want to get into it a good book on the way we see is Optics of the human eye By David A. Atchison, George Smith.
  • Question:-Are there any camera flashes with a zoom?
Short version: I want a camera flash with a zoom.
Long version: A regular camera flash sends light to a wide field of view, which is perfect for photography at low magnification. On the other hand, now that there are digital cameras with zooms beyond 10X, it doesn't make sense for the flash to light up the huge field of view that the camera isn't even looking at. Wouldn't it be cool to adjust the divergence (field of view) of the flash so it would work at higher magnifications and therefore longer distances? If one is available already, let me know.

Answer:-There are indeed flashes that zoom - many of them. I don't konw if one is made for your camera or not, but find your camera at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) and they will show accessories under the camera. Sometimes they show flash units. If not, this is a good site to search anyhow.
  • Question:-Looking for a high dof macro camera most often in low light?
Hi, I have a very specific application in which I need a high depth of field using the macro setting and most often have low light conditions. I can get some more light in the end if that is what I need but that would be inconvenient. I'd also like optical image stabilization, aperture priority and as some insurance, the ability to use a wide angle lens. I was looking at the G7 or G9 but reviews I have read of them say that the macro is no good in low light (although it is great in good lighting conditions). Also looking at the Nikon Coolpix 5000. I'm looking for something in that size range. I'd like to end up with a depth of field of about an inch at a range of around 2-4cms. Thanks

Answer:-I believe you need a (d)SLR with a serious lens. Eventually a special macro lens (like these here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=155). DOF becomes lower with bigger aperture and with magnification of image. Since you have low light you might need big aperture which will lower the DOF. A higher ISO setting might help. If you need to work macro (say 1:1, which means image size on senzor equals real image size), again you will loose DOF.
dSLRs have bigger sensors than compact cameras and usually give usable image quality also with higher ISO --> so you may use narrower aperture and thus longer DOF. But I am afraid your question has no stright answer, at least I do not know it.
There is also an Adobe PS technique to make more photos, each focused on different distance, then combine them in one image with big DOF. I saw details in a recent Outdoor Photography, I believe. But you need a static subject. Also, if your subject is static put the camera on tripod, use smallest aperture you have (you might need long exposure time) and shoot.
    Good luck!

  • Question:-Ran red light in Massachusetts/NH border, camera flashed, question?
Hi, I just moved up to Massachusetts and live in a town on the border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Today, as I was returning from shopping, I was coming up to an intersection when a car came out of left field and got in front of me. He proceeded to go slowly through the light which had turned green then yellow immediately. It was still yellow when I was going through it; after I had already passed the white barrier line, it went to red and the camera flashed. If this helps, I believe it was at the southern border of NH in Plaistow, NH that turns into Haverhill, MA (believe it is called RT. 108). My questions are: does Massachusetts have red light cameras that ticket people and if so, would this warrant me getting a ticket? Also, because I am out of state and don't have a license plate on the front of my car such as people do up here, could I get one anyway?
Finally, please no criticisms. We all run red lights sometimes and I am not a crazy driver.

Answer:-I've never seen a red light or speeding camera in NH or MA.

What is common, particularly in NH is a strobe light in the red light to get the drivers attention that light is red. These don't take a picture - just there to be sure you notice the red light.
  • Question:-Are there any camera flashes with a "zoom"?
Short version: I want a camera flash with a zoom.
Long version: A regular camera flash sends light to a wide field of view, which is perfect for photography at low magnification. On the other hand, now that there are digital cameras with zooms beyond 10X, it doesn't make sense for the flash to light up the huge field of view that the camera isn't even looking at. Wouldn't it be cool to adjust the divergence (field of view) of the flash so it would work at higher magnifications and therefore longer distances? If one is available already, let me know.

Answer:-I have an SB-800 flash unit for my Nikon D200. The computer in the flash communicates with the computer in the camera which inturn talks to the computer in the lens.and adjusts for the lens I'm using.

I also have an SB-16B for my 35mm. It while not as sophisticated, it does have a zoom function on the flash head that I can adjust for ultra wide angle, wide angle, normal, meduim telephoto, and telephoto.

You need to get a flash unit made by the camera maker. They match their units so they can communicate various bits of information.

Although you can find some older flash units, like my SB-16B that have a manual adjustment.
  • Question:-Good camera high school sports in low light.?
    Requirements ...

    1. Sports in low light (high school football field with mediocre lights at night, high school gym with mediocre lights.)
    2. I also want it to be a well rounded camera for portraits, landscape, etc

$1500-$2000ish for body is bearable. I like the price of the Nikon D90. :) ... but don't know if it will handle the above lighting situation.

Just interested in body right now ... glass is a whole 'nother deal.

Answer:-The D90 is an excellent choice as it brings you near-D300 quality at a lower price. The low-light, high-ISO performance is outstanding, and that's what you'd need under the two scenarios you've described.

Currently, I use a D200 for basketball and football, and find myself wishing I could push beyond the self-imposed 1600 ISO ceiling. Anything above that, and the digital noise is really a problem.

On the D90, that problem is history and I'd be able to shoot at ISO 3200 or higher with even better results.

Here's some samples I found on Flickr.com of D90 basketball photos.
    http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=basketball&s=int&cm=nikon%2Fd90&z=t

And here's a photographer who's gotten some great nighttime high school football shots with his D90.

miami dolphins

  • Question:-Miami Dolphins?
Miami has won miami miami has won miami miami has won miami has won dolphins WONNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MIAMI HAS WON nana miami has wonnn miami has won miami hail won miami miami won
this win is better then the supper bowlwin

Answer:-The Dolphins won!? Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! They should have just quit! Why didn't they run they table in reverse!? I wanted an 0-16 season for any NFL team, why couldn't the Dolphins just quit!? They ruined my dream! First the damn Raiders, now the stupid Dolphins! They destroyed my dream!
  • Question:-miami dolphins?
do you think miami dolphins will go 0-16?

Answer:-no it is way to difficult to go 0-16 or 16-0 the Dolphins will win and the Pats will lose.
  • Question:-Do you think the Miami Hurricanes can beat the Miami Dolphins in a football game?
I personally think the Miami Hurricanes would crush the Miami Dolphins. The Hurricanes are meaner than the Dolphins. They are tougher than the Miami Dolphins. They are more talented than the Miami Dolphins. The Hurricanes would crush them.

Answer:-I agree the Dolphins stunk it up last night, it makes you wonder. Seriously, no college team could beat an NFL team.
  • Question:-How will the Miami Dolphins do next season?
How do you think the Miami Dolphins will do next year? I got them really gelling as a team together with Henne's second year at QB. I see them winning between 9-10 games and making the playoffs? Got Dansby on defense now and have a stud receiver or will it be another average 7-8 win total for the fins?

Answer:-They won't even make the play-offs...8-8 if their lucky.
  • Question:-MiAmI DoLpHiNs?
Wat do you think on the dolphins first win, is it really something they should be happey about

Answer:-They should be happy but they also shouldnt act like they just won the superbowl. They act like their invincible now.
  • Question:-How will the Miami Dolphins do in the playoffs?
I'm a dolphins fan and the miami dolphins can be very unpredictable. I do believe they will be the Jets and win the division and the 3rd seed.
If they play against Baltimore or New England, do they have a chance to make if far or get beat in the first round.

    Answer:-dolphins fan right here!
yes the dolphins are very unpredictable and THE WIN TONIGHT agaisnt the Jets just proves how determined they are. And altough teams like Baltimore and New England are very good the Dolphins have shown that they are a good team and are ready to play this year. It won't be easy, but i think we're going to get past the first round.
  • Question:-Do you see the Miami Dolphins winning at least one game during the 2007 season? Why or why not?
The Miami Dolphins have not won one game this season and they have a record of 0-13. With three games left, do you see them winning at least one game against the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Why or why not?

Answer:-I am a Dolphin fan for life. Through the good years and the bad ones. And this is definitely a bad one. I don't think they'll win one. But I don't think that makes them the worst team ever. Statistically, maybe. But America needs to look closer. They lost over half of their games by only 3 points or less. That's one field goal. They could easily be a .500 club or better. They lost their starting QB, starting RB, starting MLB, with a new head coach. And they still managed to have kept over half of their games close. For nastalgic purposes, I would love to see them summon one great game to defeat the team that is threating their old record of perfection. Probably won't happen, but I can dream can't I?
  • Question:-Is it safe to say the Miami Dolphins are the worst team in the league?
Right now I think the Miami Hurricanes can beat the Miami Dolphins, and that isn't a joke.

Answer:-Have you seen the Rams, Lions, Browns, and Chiefs play? Those are the worst teams in football right now.
  • Question:-How would you react if the Miami Dolphins beat the New England Patriots in Week 16?
The Miami Dolphins with a record 0-13 do have a chance to beat the undefeated New England Patriots. I think it would be ironic if the only win the Dolphins had was against the Patriots and that was the Patriots only loss.

I predict the Dolphins to win because they have some talent.

    Final Score:

    Dolphins 35

    Patriots 24

    Answer:-Oh, god do I hope you're right.

    First off, Florida Native here.

Secondly, there's this girl that works at the place that Nick and I go to every Saturday night, and she is obsessive about the Pats. Like seriously... obsessive. And when you even mention them, she starts whooping and hollering and literally shouting, saying, "They're the best f****** team ever! They'll kick anyones ass!" Blah, blah, blah. And that's cool, support your sports teams, but she's just crazy. So I really hope they lose... and it's even sweeter that the Dolphins are playing them. **crosses fingers and prays for the Pats to lose**

You got a star from me for this question.

Edited: I hope you don't mind... I just an idea for another question based on this one... if you mind, let me know and I'll delete it...
  • Question:-Someone told that the Miami Dolphins Orange Bowl was the loudest NFL stadium of all time? Is that true?
I would watch old Miami Dolphin tapes, and sometimes Don Schula and the Dolphins sidelines would have to tell the fans to quiet down. It must of been very loud.

Answer:-The loudest stadium is Qwest Field.

Qwest Field has earned a reputation as one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.[9] Allen had the architects design the structure of the stadium, especially the partial roofs, to direct as much crowd noise as possible on the field. In addition, the north end zone seating, called the "Hawks Nest", was specifically designed for rowdy fans; the seating consists of metal bleachers which reflect sound, and fans often stomp to create even more. Seahawks fans already had a reputation for being among the most vociferous in the NFL; while they played in the Kingdome, opposing teams often practiced with rock music blaring at full blast to prepare for the often painfully high decibel levels typical of Seahawk games.

During the 2005 NFC Championship Game against the Carolina Panthers, the decibel level recorded by Fox Sports telecast producers reached 137 dB.

The University of Washington Seismology lab stated that on January 6, 2007 during the 2006 NFL Playoffs, the screaming and jumping around during the game at Qwest Field was the equivalent of an earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter Scale.[10] The Seattle Seahawks won the Wild Card game over the Dallas Cowboys after Tony Romo botched and fumbled a game winning field goal snap near the end of the 4th quarter.

Thumbs up to those who agree.
