Can You Really Get To The Top Of Google?

It's a question that's asked a lot all across the world "Can you really get to the top of Google? " And, since most people don't go beyond the first few listings in the results and even fewer click through to page 2, it's a perfectly valid question.
Like most things search engine related, it's often answered by the reply "it depends".
If your question related to the phrase "pig breeding in outer mongolia" then the answer at the time of writing this article would almost certainly have been yes. Now that I've used the phrase then, assuming this article gets indexed, then there's a good chance it will come up high for "pig breeding in outer mongolia". Not that it's my target keyword phrase, it's just the way that search engines work.
So whilst the short answer to the question of whether you can get to the top of Google is yes, the real answer should be to ask you what keyword phrases you want to reach for the top.
Which means you'll need to put in a bit of work.
Start by working out what keywords are worth targeting in your market.
Unless you're offering free gifts then you'd probably ignore keyword phrases that included the word free.
And unless you were offering dodgy downloads of music and films then you'd probably exclude the words torrent or warez. But if you had a warped mind you might decide that those were a good way of targeting people who were frustrated with searching for illegal rip-offs (the ones that cause grown music industry types to openly weep) and who would be happy to pay you a small fee for one you'd found earlier. Not that you'd do that of course, I'm just using it as an example.
The keyword phrases you should be looking for are usually called "buying" keywords. Ones where people have almost got their wallet in one hand and are frantically typing away on their keyboard with the other hand.
These are the phrases you'd like to get to the top of Google for.
The problem is that you're not alone.
So you have to make your web page more enticing to Google's computers and to real humans.
There's a lot involved in that side of things and there are whole books written on search engine optimisation - which is what all this stuff about how to get to the top of Google is called by techies. You can read up on that elsewhere or get someone in to help you. Your call but being biased I'd suggest using a search engine expert.
