• Question:-Does Harry Belafonte earn residuals when ever they play the "day o" sounds clip at live sporting events?
  I noticed that at many live professional sporting events, the stadium will play Harry Belafonte's "Day O" sound clip (from the Banana Boat song) as a call and response to the crowd. To be clear, the stadium would only play that 1-2 second clip of the song and that's all. I always wondered if this was something that would earn residuals even though it was just a brief sound byte.

  Answer:-The actual name of it is The Banana Boat Song. It's played for crowd interaction, and not just at baseball games (I've heard it basketball, softball, & football games too). It was chosen because the "Day-O! phrase is catchy and that part of the song can be played during short timeouts or between pitches or at bats. Another classic tune used this way is Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher" aka "The Hi Dee Ho Song." The alternate title comes from the first line of the song's chorus "Hi Dee Hi Dee Hi Dee Ho."
