  This guy supposedly talks to dead people, and has a show on it.
  
  He practices Pseudo-psychology, and is the biggest fraud on the face of the planet.
  
  He even did a special on September 11, 2001, claiming he was talking to the victims that died that day.
  
  Why do people still believe this? Did they not take psychology? Or do they call Miss Cleo as well.
  
  Answer:-We live in a society that's ripe for pseudoscience memes of all types. Our public schools have been failing us miserably for decades, churning out students who know _what_ to think (barely) but not _how_ to think. (Ironically, our schools have been so bad for so long that most people are completely ignorant of all the education they're missing!) Rational thinking, which includes logic, skepticism and the scientific method, are at best only touched upon.
  
  The result? A society largely unprepared with the mental tools needed to critically and intelligently evaluate outrageous claims and beliefs. In a rational and educated society, people like John Edward, Sylvia Brown, and the people hawking Nostradamus predictions would all be out of business.

  No proselytizing please, this is a general question.
  
  I've read a few of his first books and found him quite amusing, very frank and open about his early years of non-belief in the subject. He realized that this was the path for him in life. He does think and speak very very quickly as inspiration demands no doubt.
  
  Answer:-I don't believe John Edward to be the real deal. He has been caught cheating before, and was exposed on Dateline. On Larry King Live (2001) when King asked Edward if he thought there would ever be proof of spirit contact, Edward responded by suggesting proof was unattainable, that only belief matters: ". . . I think that to prove it is a personal thing. It is like saying, prove God. If you have a belief system and you have faith, then there is nothing really more than that." But this is an attempt to insulate a position and to evade or shift the burden of proof, which is always on the claimant. As Houdini emphatically stated, "It is not for us to prove the mediums are dishonest, it is for them to prove that they are honest."
  
  A glaring tip-off to Edward would be that previous to his "shows" his people circulate the room, collecting information on the guests, including family tree information. They are then assigned seating. The show is then "delayed" for "technical difficulties". O. kay. I don't even need psychic ability to start to suspect that he is running a less than honest act here.
  
  If you like him for his entertainment value, no problem. But for those who part with their money really believing, and then are misled by an act, it's unethical. Hustling the bereaved and vulnerable in exchange for false comfort is not a nice thing. (You notice he always has "good" or "soft" news from beyond?)
  
  I don't think that I've yet seen a medium or spirit guide that I felt proved the ability, although I think it would be very cool. Probably the most convincing would be Esther Hicks, channeling Abraham, at least in my opinion, but I remain a skeptic as far as she is concerned, also.

  Answer:-Ever hear of cold reading? He says a random thing that's likely to apply to someone in a large audience, then uses demographics, body language, and carefully crafted questions to narrow it down.

  I have seen his shows and they seem pretty accurate. He could be a really good fake though......
  
  Answer:-Not even close. He wrote the book on cold reading.

  Only those who have-did it seem like he was for real? I do not need to hear from those people who say he is a farse, blah, blah blah.... I just want to hear from the people who have experienced his seminar live.
  
  Answer:-One of the 20-20 or other news shows did a program on him, and it showed how he got the info. It was quite convincing (I'm usually skeptical of the skeptics as well as the originals). However there's a woman (Judy?) on one of the other channels who's supposed to be quite good and for real. As someone who picks up on stuff, it seemed more real to me too - consistent with how it works.

  Answer:-I think he's got a real job now. John Edward was exposed for having gotten knowledge about his guests beforehand. Also a magician and skeptc James Randi studied one of his shows only to find out that J.E got on 3 out of 23 claims right.

  Answer:-I believe in what he does, which is engage in cold readings.
  I just don't believe in what he says he does.
  
  I also believe that if anyone were to hold out hope to a grieving person and would base that hope on lies and manipulation, that person would be a pretty offensive individual.
